Do you have a sub-preference/specialitay, Mr. Cut-em-up? ;)
PS I met a 4th year at work who told me to never go into surgery. I told him that he should stop un-recommending his career choice, because he was far from the only one who's decided he was cut out for it. Except I didn't make that HORRIBLE pun.
I'll probably wind up attempting to get into emergency medicine, but the likelihood of getting into one of the 25 or so spots that are open yearly is pretty slim. Otherwise, I might aim for a back-door route to emergency medicine, or surgery with a fellowship in trauma.
So basically, I haven't really decided. :)
Surgery can be pretty hit-or-miss, I'd imagine.
I've ruled out most of internal medicine (excepting cardiology) because it's too thinky and intelligent for me. I'm too dumb for that stuff. I'd prefer something a little more procedure oriented.
Yeah, I guess I'm sort of combining memories of you joking about cutting people open, and your real love for emergency medicine.
I wish you the best of luck getting one of those spots. I'm sure you've made quite the reputation up there - have they apologized yet for having taken so damned long? ;)
I still can't figure out how thinky I want to get. I'm aggressively curious about the science behind the pathologies and procedures (barring a few fields I'm already not interested in), but the procedures are really where it's at, otherwise I'd just stick to a PhD. I mean, I've only witnessed 6 hours of brain surgery, but my eyes were thoroughly glued to the drilling and the pulsing brain and the suturing...
