I don't know why this ever came up as a topic when me and a group of friends were having a conversation at a local coffee house, but we got to discussing NASCAR. Yep, that 'sport' where a bunch of mid-western, Caucasian males lock their steering wheels to the left, then drive their cars really fast in a big circle.
Anyways, most of my friends were saying how stupid and boring that racing-sport was because it lacked any track dynamics - like S-turns, hair-pin turns, or RIGHT turns (for that matter). Then they finally said the sport shouldn't even be shown on T.V.
Although I agreed with everything they said, I had to voice my opinion when they mentioned it should be taken off of air - not because I watch the sport, but because I liked the evidence that NASCAR provided me when arguing about the hazards of Asian driving.
Let me go into more depth about this reasoning. Asians, on the average (at least in California), seem to have a horrible reputation when it came to driving. One of my friends even went so far as to say, "All accidents are probably caused by Asian drivers in some one way or another."
So, this got me to think - "What could possible medium could I use to combat this pervading prejudice that majority of Asian drivers are really bad." Then it hit me - NASCAR on public television!
Think about it. NASCAR is predominately composed of white drivers. If the public is continually shown this and major accidents occur while they're watching - it'll help to combat the pre-existing stereotypes. So, I'll be damned if someone tries to get this 'sport' off the air, for I will fight him tooth and nail.
