I'm not a member here, but I stumbled across this comm and just wanted to say that this "right of conscience" crap makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

As a member of the Religious Society of Friends, I'm an actual conscientious objector. In my case, to war and violence. I expect my government to respect my right not to take a job that would violate my religious beliefs. What I do not expect my government to do is enact policies requiring the military to hire me, keep me on, and pay me for a job I refuse to do.

Every time I hear someone complain that their "rights of conscience" are being violated, my first question is "I'm sorry, were you drafted?" Have a religious objection to dispensing medicine? Then don't become a pharmacist. Problem solved.

Right, sorry for the rant. I'm done now.

As a pro-choice Unitarian, I completely agree with that comment! Except for the part where I'm not a pacifist, but all the stuff about the policies, yes.
