Name: Sokka
Series: Avatar: the Last Airbender
Ability: Sokka is, to put it simply (and in his words), a Super Blacksmith. He has the ability to create weapons from iron or metal, though mostly prefers to stick to melee weapons like machettes and axes instead of guns and military-based weaponry. Of course, this power also allows him to make completely random things, like toasters.

History:
Born and raised in Bevelle, Deningrad, Sokka is the eldest child of Hakoda and Kya and older brother of Katara. Forced to mature and become more adult after his mother was murdered, his father took up a second job in another city to keep their family going, leaving him and his sister to be raised by their grandmother Kanna.
As they were growing up, it soon became evident who was the more talented sibling when Katara grew into her powers at the tender age of seven. Sokka, a year and a half older, couldn't help but feel jealousy towards his sister. The power to bend water to ones will had been in their family since their great-grandmother's time, primarily on the female side. He vexed this jealousy and the loneliness of thinking his sister didn't need him any more by taking on a 'women are weaker than men and therefore need protecting' attitude.
While his sister was being taught by their grandmother how to bend the water, Sokka took to the backstreets of Bevelle, training himself in swordsmanship, using a sword he had taken from his father's room. He used the large rats as target practice, and he usually came home covered in dirt and cuts from where he had accidentally struck himself with the sword.
When Katara received her acceptance letter to Estrasia shortly after they met a boy named Aang, Sokka's heart sank. It was bad enough that their mother was dead and their father working in another city, but his sister going away really struck him down. Both Katara and Aang had received their letters to the world's most exclusive academy for the gifted, and he hadn't even grown into any power yet.
When he reached sixteen, Sokka's power finally decided to develop, though it wasn't the same ability to waterbend as his sister had. This was how Sokka's imagination came in handy, allowing him to create a magnitude of things simply from staring at metal and concentrating on it. He joined Aang and his sister at Estrasia.
Personality:
Sokka has a big heart. He's capable of accepting his failures and learning from them, but tends to be rash and his pride as a man usually leads him to embarrassment. When he has been proven wrong, Sokka always gives a heartfelt apology and a changing of his ways, changing where changes are needed.
Despite his joker nature, he can become serious when he wants to or the need arises and is very protective of his sister, Katara, though he's protective by nature. He's also good at coming up with ideas, even if the ideas aren't always good or relevant at the time. He's sarcastic and eccentric in personality, able to put a smile on his friend's faces when they need it the most.
As a human being, Sokka is very loyal and will fight to the death even when the cause seems hopeless. Despite his intelligence, Sokka sometimes acts very silly, if not downright stupid. He will sometimes create ridiculous plans that are almost impossible to carry out. This strange behaviour can somehow carry over into making important decisions for himself. One of his major hobbies aside from creating things includes shopping, something which will always cheer him up without a fault.

Third Person Sample:
At times, there were probably people who wondered what went on in Sokka's mind (his sister one of them). He was intelligent enough to get passing grades at the very least, although sometimes his actions were...more than questionable. Like the time he decided to get a messenger bird so he could send letters to home in Bevelle and called it Hawky. Or buying a bag simply because it matched a belt he happened to own (which was on sale anyway and he would have brought the bag regardless).
Now was one such time. Sokka could be found in the commons, hovering over a table with a look of absolute concentration on his face. In front of him on the table was what appeared to be a chunk of coal, which seemed to be changing shape as time went by. It was only subtle changes at first, just small indents in the coal moving in and out almost like it was breathing. After what seemed to be five, maybe six minutes the coal melted, spreading out over the bench in a thick goo.
"Hmm...what to make..." Sokka pursed his lips together and leaned back, hand to his chin in thought as his other arm supported it at the elbow. His brow furrowed together, humming sounds coming from his throat as he thinks. After his eyes close for a moment, they snap open again and he smacks his fist into his palm. "That's it!"
The goo that had previously been coal began to gather together under his gaze, forming a more solid shape. It moulded together, squishing and squirming until it formed the image in his head. Once it was done, Sokka clapped his hands together, obviously very gleeful at his accomplishment.
"I will call you...SUPER TOASTER! Now to find a power point..."

I've been away for a while and I'm not entirely sure but...was there anything we needed to do if our powers started...sorta...kinda...
