F.U.N's Young Numismatists Program

What is the Young Numismatists (YN) Program?

The Florida United Numismatists (F.U.N.) Young Numismatists (Y/N) Program has developed into one of the best in the country. The purpose of the YN program is to nurture those children through young adults in the hobby of numismatics. Tony Bonaro, is the Director of Youth Activities, for Florida United Numismatists. Tony, does an outstanding job educating our youth in the art of coin collecting.

In addition to teaching F.U.N.'s Young Numismatic classes, Mr. Bonaro also works with Boy Scouts And Girl Scouts Of America. F.U.N. sponsors an afternoon session for the Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts Of America helping to assist them in earning their Merit Badge and Girl Scouts to earn their Fun with Money Patch. You may read more about that program here

Each and every YN who attends FUN's program receives a bag of "Numismatic Goodies" all of which are donated by our dealers and exhibitors. Our YNs can expect numismatic games, contests, education and auctions at each session. At the auctions, they are given FUN Money to bid with and are able to keep what ever they are successful in purchasing at the auction. Every YN who attends the program will also receive a boxed lunch compliments of FUN. Parents may purchase a boxed lunch if enough are available.

Tony Bonaro Talks About FUN's Y/N Program

Tony Bonaro, FUN Director of Youth Activities talked with FUN Convention TV about the many things the F.U.N show has to offer it's Young Numismatists at each convention and how they can win a trip to the ANA Summer Seminar.
"I would really like to see some of our YNs compete for the 2014 FUN Summer Seminars Scholarship this January. The Summer Seminars conducted by the ANA in Colorado Springs each Summer are a “one of kind” experience for our Young Numismatists. It is an outstanding opportunity to meet and befriend other YNs from all over the country."
Are you active in your local coin club? Scholarships are awarded on a merit basis. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate their involvement, leadership and accomplishments in numismatics, as well as a desire to learn more about the hobby. Recommendations from other numismatists are also required.

So, tell us about yourself and your club. What numismatic projects are you involved in now? What do you enjoy most about the hobby? Why do you think you should be chosen to spend your 2014 Summer with the wonderful educational instructors of the ANA Summer Seminar?

FUN Convention TV & Florida United Numismatists, embarked on an educational adventure at the 2013 F.U.N. show in January. F.U.N’s Young Numismatists program offered students a walk through history with Abraham Lincoln & General Robert E Lee. Our Young Numismatists and convention guests were treated to a photo opportunity as well as conversations with an "in character" Abraham Lincoln and General Lee. F.U.N's Young Numismatists enjoyed a walk through history with both Robert E. Lee and our 16th President Abraham Lincoln. It was certainly an educational and entertaining experience for all involved.

Special Thanks To Those Who Contributed To The FUN Y/N Program
You're The BEST!

Florida United Numismatists hosted its first Coins & Kids event at the 58th Annual FUN Convention in Orlando Florida! Mr. Tony Bonaro, FUN Director of Youth Activities & FUN Convention TV's photographer and videographer Erin Leigh diligently worked to build an educational and entertaining children's activity booth on FUN's bourse floor.

Our young numismatists enjoyed placing pennies into stylish faux leather penny folders under the watchful eye of Y/N Director Mr. Tony Bonaro. The folders became a keepsake of the show upon completion. However, the true highlight of the booth was the carnival atmosphere brought by the big spinning prize wheel. Yes, children were told to "Spin It To Win It" and that they did very enthusiastically. What did we learn during the show? Everyone loved the wheel and we needed more prizes. Thankfully, many of our F.U.N. dealers donated items to be awarded. Here are just a few of the prizes that were gathered during the show.

Lighthhouse donated a stack of tote bags
Castle Coins donated a British Large Penny, an Israeli coin & several other coins
Mr. Bill Weikel of Patriot Coin donated a Lincoln Medal
Numismatic News donated a box of magazines
Coin World donated a money clip and a box of magazines
Littleton Coin donated the Green Lincoln Penny Folders
Original Hobo Nickel Society donated Hobo Nickels and Hobo Nickel folders
Pierre Fricke donated an autographed copy of his book Confederate Paper Money

Thanks Everyone.
We Couldn't Do It Without You!
