Coins & Kids Foto FUN
58th Annual FUN Convention

After the 2012 Summer FUN convention we posed the question “If we build it, will you come” and the answer is YES! FUN’s Director of Youth Activities Tony Bonaro & I THANK YOU for participating in the first Coins & Kids event at the 58th Annual FUN Convention.

Okay, so maybe I was having a “Field Of Dreams” flashback moment. But like the character of Ray Kinsella and his family who built a baseball diamond in Iowa, it was wonderful to just throw caution to the wind and create a photo station where FUN Convention guests could take a moment and “get in touch with their inner billionaire”.

Well, I think Every Picture Tells A Story and I have plenty of stories to tell here. Our Photo Station was a hit and a FUN time was had by all. Just look at some of these pictures.

I Wanna Be A Billionaire

I wanna be a billionaire so fricking bad
Buy all of the things I never had
Uh, I wanna be on the cover of Forbes magazine
Smiling next to Oprah and the Queen

Oh every time I close my eyes
I see my name in shining lights
A different city every night oh
I swear the world better prepare
For when I'm a billionaire

The song was covered on the television show Glee during the second season premiere episode Audition. Sung by Chord Overstreet, Cory Monteith, Harry Shum, Jr., Kevin McHale and Mark Salling, the song debuted and peaked at No. 28 on the Hot 100.

Lil Jacob Steals The Show!

This little fella had quite an eventful weekend. Jacob has an angelic smile, but he spun our prize wheel like a professional discus thrower. He has quite an arm on him. He loved playing with our photo props. Oddly, he became a "prop" himself during our Young Numismatist meeting when President Lincoln picked him up and tossed him around using him as a visual aid in his storytelling. Be sure to watch FUN Convention TV's 2013 Young Numismatist video presentation as Abraham Lincoln and General Robert E Lee address the class.

Miss Myriam

It was a pleasure to meet Miss Myriam and her parents at the Young Numismatist Exhibitor Luncheon. Myriam's exhibit Ten Little Indians took second place in the Y/N division. I learned a lot about this young lady while escorting her around the bourse floor. I am sure we will see more of Myriam in the future, as she has a love for numismatics. Thankfully, she found time to indulge in some photo silliness with me.

Marianna Marianna bo banna, banana fanna fo fanna, me my mo manna Marianna!

Marianna accompanied her sister Abigail to the F.U.N. show. Over the last year or so Abigail had become so engrossed in coin collecting, that Marianna was determined to find out what all the fuss was about. When I first met Marianna she was quite shy and reserved, just taking it all in. By the end of the day she was helping me "style" everyone for their billionaire "debut". She was a lot of fun and extremely helpful. My sincere Thanks goes to Marianna and her mother Megan for all their assistance at the Coins & Kids booth. We couldn't have done it without you!

Zakk

I met Zakk and his mom at the Young Numismatist meeting last year and was thrilled to see them back this year. I was even happier to spend some time "styling" Zakk and adorning him with Bling!

Sarah

I caught up with Sarah and her father during the Young Numismatist meeting and insisted Miss Sarah stop by for a photo shoot. So glad she did! In one photo Sarah crossed her arms over her chest and reached down deep to find her inner gangsta!

Emmalee, Luke & Levi

I first met the Hooper family in 2011 at Summer FUN when I photographed them during our Young Numismatist meeting. I tend to zero in on female coin collectors and enjoyed speaking with Emmalee and photographing Luke & Levi. In fact, one of my photos was used on the entrance columns for the 2012 F.U.N. Convention "Back To The Basics" which focused on teaching coin collecting 101. I almost didn't recognize Emmalee, Luke & Levi this year. They are quickly becoming young adults. But that didn't stop them from indulging their inner child and adorning themselves with Bling! See you next year!

Let's Have Some FUN!

When the booth got crazy on Saturday I was photographing our young convention guests as quickly as possible. Sadly, that meant I wasn't able to have extensive conversations and learn more about everyone. So please forgive me for not listing everyone by name.

Spin It To Win It!

Florida United Numismatists hosted its first Coins & Kids event at the 58th Annual FUN Convention in Orlando Florida! Mr. Tony Bonaro, FUN Director of Youth Activities & FUN Convention TV's photographer and videographer Erin Leigh diligently worked to build an educational and entertaining children's activity booth on FUN's bourse floor.

Our young numismatists enjoyed placing pennies into stylish faux leather penny folders under the watchful eye of Y/N Director Mr. Tony Bonaro. The folders became a keepsake of the show upon completion. However, the true highlight of the booth was the carnival atmosphere brought by the big spinning prize wheel. Yes, children were told to "Spin It To Win It" and that they did very enthusiastically. What did we learn during the show? Everyone loved the wheel and we needed more prizes. Thankfully, many of our F.U.N. dealers donated items to be awarded. Here are just a few of the prizes that were gathered during the show.

Lighthhouse donated a stack of tote bags
Castle Coins donated a British Large Penny, an Israeli coin & several other coins
Mr. Bill Weikel of Patriot Coin donated a Lincoln Medal
Numismatic News donated a box of magazines
Coin World donated a money clip and a box of magazines
Littleton Coin donated the Green Lincoln Penny Folders
Original Hobo Nickel Society donated Hobo Nickels and Hobo Nickel folders
Pierre Fricke donated an autographed copy of his book Confederate Paper Money

Note: FUN Y/N Director Mr. Tony Bonaro will provide a more accurate list of donations in his article featured in FUN Topics Magazine.

Sharing space in the Coins & Kids booth was our new "Foto FUN" area. While our original concept was to create, a "FUN" photo opportunity for the young people visiting the show it seems our photo props were a big hit with the adults on the bourse floor too! Bling! Was the order of the day and everyone adored themselves with riches for a photograph.

You could hear the song Billionaire in the background during each photo shoot!
I wanna be a billionaire so bad Buy all of the things I never had
I wanna be on the cover of Forbes magazine Smiling next to Oprah and the Queen
Oh, every time I close my eyes I see my name in shining lights
Yeah, a different city every night Oh, I swear the world better prepare
For when I'm a billionaire

Hope to see YOU at the Coins & Kids & Foto FUN booth at Summer FUN!

We are in dire need of "prizes" for our Spin It To Win It prize wheel. Please contact Mr. Tony Bonara if you'd like to make a donation. Thanks again everyone!
