Paolo "Mr The" Curcio Shows Us How To Carve A Hobo Nickel

2013 FUN Convention Features The Hobo Nickel

As many of you know by now, the theme for the FUN convention in January is “Buffalo and Hobos A Centennial Celebration.” 1913 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Buffalo Nickel. The Indian head/Buffalo nickel is extremely popular with collectors. It is truly a piece of pure Americana! This coin was produced from 1913 to 1938. America was struggling through the first World War, prohibition and the roaring twenties. Not to mention the Great Depression, which is when homeless artisans commonly referred to as "Hobos" began carving intricate designs on the Buffalo Nickel. Soon these coins became known to collectors as “Hobo Nickels.” The carving tradition continues today. The Hobo Nickel Society is filled with talented carvers who continue to turn nickels into extraordinary pieces of art. Mr. The will showcase his work at this years FUN Convention. Be sure to come to the FUN show and check out his work at the Hobo Nickel Society's club booth.
