Man Was Robbed of More Than $2 Million Worth of Gold at His Apartment Building: Cops

here A man faces charges for robbing a courier for a Bolivian gold mining company of more than $2 million worth of gold that the victim had in a luggage as he got off the elevator at his Coral Gables apartment building, authorities said.
Raonel Valdez-Valhuerdis, 34, was arrested on Monday in connection to the Oct. 12 robbery, the arrest affidavit said. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney. He faces charges of robbery with a firearm, battery and grand theft over $100,000, authorities said.
George Villegas told NBC 6 South Florida that he was heading to his family business with two rolling suitcases containing 110 pounds of gold when three guys stopped him early Friday morning.
"And they took the gun out and said in Spanish, we've come for the gold - we just want the gold," Villegas said.

Man Accused of Spending Stolen Antique Coins on Pizza, Movie
Pizza and a movie ended up costing the freedom of a Vancouver man accused of using stolen antique coins to pay for his night out.
Dakoda Garren,19, was arrested Saturday for allegedly stealing an antique coin collection. The collection, which had coins dating back to the 1800s, was estimated to be worth $100,000, The Columbian reported.
A Woodland woman reported to police in May that she suspected Garren and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Massman, to have stolen the victim’s mother’s coin collection, police said in a report filed this week in Cowlitz County Superior Court, according to the paper.

Robert and Shirley Marchand, and her son Douglas Dooley, died as a result of a home invasion robbery near Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The motive? A gold coin collection valued at over a half million dollars.
"We think it was planned," said Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley. "The indication is that this was not a spontaneous crime."
All three victims' throats were slit. Both men died at the scene. Days later, Shirley Marchand died from her injuries. The stolen safe was recovered, with only a single coin found inside.
