Discovery's "GOLD RUSH" Back for Summer Specials
GOLD RUSH: THE JUNGLE Premiered Friday, August 17th at 9PM E/P
With frozen ground forcing the Hoffman crew out of the Klondike for the winter, Todd Hoffman turns his attention south. He gets a hot tip on a claim in Guyana, South America, where a full-fledged gold rush is underway. The country produces 400,000 ounces of gold per year - legally. The true number could be as much as double that. If the Hoffmans can pull off Todd's daring plan and mine a claim there, they would be able to trade a four-month mining season up north to year-round operation in the jungle. Todd and a small scouting team take the 4,600 mile trip from Sandy, Oregon to Guyana, South America to see if mining there really is viable. The crew gets caught up in a shady business deal, treks through snake infested jungle and makes their way up deadly rivers in a 'no guts no glory' adventure. But are they really ready to trade permafrost for torrential rain... and worse?
GOLD RUSH: AFTER SHOW
After the Arctic winds and frozen ground forced Todd Hoffman and his crew to shut down gold mining operations in the Klondike, he sets his sights on a different location - a claim that could be mined 365 days a year in the small South American nation of Guyana. Hoffman gathered a small team and went on a scouting mission to see if mining there could be viable - but it didn't exactly go according to plan. In GOLD RUSH: AFTER SHOW, hosted by Executive Producer Christo Doyle, hear directly from Todd Hoffman and his crew as they talk about the challenges, conflicts and triumphs they faced on their prospecting trip. In revealing interviews, behind the scenes moments and stories that have never been told before, this one-hour special uncovers even more about the men willing to risk everything to fulfill their dreams of striking gold. And Hoffman finally answers the question on everyone's mind: will he uproot his crew and trade the Klondike for Guyana?

This video talks about the miners of Guyana who are being diagnosed with mercury poisoning. Last night on Gold Rush, The Jungle the men toured a neighboring miners mining camp. During their tour they saw the miners using mercury to aid in the recovering of their gold.
Todd and the men on the show decided that they would NOT use mercury in their mining plan and would continue to use the same mining methods currently used at their Klondike mining site.
