NGC to Exhibit Spectacular Rarities at FUN Show
NGC to Exhibit Spectacular Rarities at FUN Show
Eleven stellar rarities ranging from ancient times to modern will be displayed by NGC during the FUN Show this January. The NGC Booth (tables 1221-1229) is the site of this must-see exhibit.
There will be something for everyone who appreciates the finest in quality and rarity. Students of early United States coinage will be drawn to the 1776 Continental Dollar grading NGC MS 65 , as well as one of the finest surviving 1794 silver dollars-a beautiful specimen grading AU 55 and pedigreed to the famous collection of Lorin G. Parmalee which was auctioned in 1890.

Enthusiasts of Liberty Head gold rarities will be treated to an 1864 Philadelphia Mint quarter eagle in NGC MS 67, the finest known example and pedigreed to the Byron Reed Collection, as well as the unique proof 1844-O eagle, another former Parmalee rarity. This fabulous coin was more recently added to the impressive Sweet Collection.
1854 Kellogg & Company Double Eagle

California’s famous Gold Rush is represented by two landmark issues: The first is the unique SP 69 1854 Kellogg & Company Double Eagle originally owned by federal assayer Augustus Humbert and later enshrined in the vast Garrett Collection at Johns Hopkins University. The second highlight is a gem MS 65 specimen of the massive 1851 Assay Office slug.
British Gold Five-Pound Coin of 1893

World coinage includes a superb British gold five-pound coin of 1893 featuring G. W. de Saulle’s splendid Veiled Head of Queen Victoria. This jewel is the finest by several grades of a handful certified by NGC. Modern Chinese issues are enormously popular these days, and one of the rarest is included in this display-the mighty 1500-yuan piece issued in 1989 for the People's Republic 40th anniversary. It contains nearly 20 ounces of pure gold and is serial number 059 of only 100 struck
The Decadrachms of Syracuse

Finally, coinage of the ancient world is seen at its finest in two magnificent coins from Greece and Rome, respectively. The decadrachms of Syracuse are justifiably famous as the pinnacle of Greek coinage art, and this exhibit includes a high grade example circa 405-390 B.C. of fine style. Viewers will also be treated to gem Mint State gold aureus of Emperor Septimius Severus (193-211 A.D.), likewise a coin graded as fully struck and of the finest style.

Expert Consults at FUN Posted on 12/13/2011
Renowned numismatist Mark Salzberg will offer free consultations to collectors at the NGC tables during the FUN Show in Orlando on January 5 and 6, 2012.
The consultations will be one-on-one and will provide an opportunity to gain unique insight into a coin's grade and surface condition by having up to three examined by this leading numismatist. These evaluations are completely free, but space is very limited and we recommend that collectors come early to the NGC booth to reserve space in line (note date and time below).
Mark Salzberg
Thursday, January 5, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Friday, January 6, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Even just a few minutes with Mark Salzberg can change a collector’s perception of what factors are important in determining a coin’s grade and what makes a coin special. The legendary coin grader and chairman of NGC is the industry’s leading authority on professional coin certification, having personally graded nearly every significant collection and rarity to come to market in the past two decades.
By examining your coins, he’ll help you understand why and how a coin’s grade is determined. He can explain why a grade already assigned to a coin is correct (or not!) or why a particular coin might be ineligible for certification. The goal of these consultations is to highlight what’s most important about grading the series that you collect, to help you build the best collection possible.
Consultations are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Since time is limited, NGC requests that you have three coins pre-selected and ready for examination. Coins to be evaluated may be raw (uncertified) or certified and encapsulated. Please visit the NGC booth during the FUN Show in Orlando with questions about these consultations and other services offered during the convention.
