Participation Requirements
Before the Clinic . . . Scouts must complete the following requirements:
1. Read the "Coin Collecting" Merit Badge Book. At the Clinic, we will review all of the requirements. Collect at least five (5) different state quarters.
2. Collect and bring a set of U.S. coins currently in circulation. This set must include a one cent piece, a nickel, a dime, a quarter, half dollar and dollar coin. The dates do not have to be the same. At least one coin from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints must be represented in the set.
3. Collect and bring a date set of U.S. coins. The set can be of any one denomination (1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents or 25 cents) and must include one (1) coin of every year, from the year the Scout was born through 2011. Any mint is acceptable. All coins must be of the same denomination.
At the Clinic
At the Clinic . . .
There is no cost for this program. Everyone will learn about collecting U.S. coins, get great free material, and take home cool prizes . Bring only the coins required for the merit badge-leave the rest of your collection at home!
Scouts will complete all other requirements during the Clinic.
Adult leaders are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Check-in begins at 1:00 p.m. on January 7th, 2012, at the Orange County Convention Center, 9899 International Dr.

Before and after the clinic
Before and after the clinic: Scouts are invited to explore and discover the excitement of the Florida United Numismatists Coin Show.
Attention Scout Leaders!
Scout Leaders . . .
Blue Cards will be provided. Tell your scouts to bring note pads and pencils and their completed type and date sets of coins . Remind Scouts to wear their uniforms. Scout Leaders should provide a copy of this flyer to Scouts planning to attend the clinic so they can study the requirements.
Girl Scouts Fun With Money Patch
"Fun with Money" patches are official Girl Scout Patches, created by the Wagon Wheel Council of Colorado Springs Colorado, and available to all Girl Scouts. Earning the patch has certain requirements associated with them, most if not all of which will be completed at the above mentioned coin collecting clinic.
The requirements for Juniors and Seniors are more advanced than for Brownies and Cadettes. Girls who earned the patch as a Brownie or Junior are encouraged to earn it again as a Junior or Senior.
Additionally, the workshop will also help meet some of the requirements for the following awards: Hobbies Try-It, Collecting Hobbies Badge, Collecting IPA (Interest Project Award).

Young Numismatists Program
Morning Program
We will have a program for Young Numismatists, boys and girls under 18 years of age, on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon.
The cost of the program is only $5.00 which includes lunch and a one year Junior Membership to the Florida United Numismatists. (Lunch alone at the convention center is more then $5.) Participants will receive plenty of materials and coins to get them started on their coin collecting career. This is open to all youth who come to the show.
Afternoon Program
This year the Florida United Numismatists hold their annual coin show in Orlando, Florida. I will be conducting a Girl Scout / Boy Scout Coin Collecting merit badge clinic in conjunction with the show. The clinic will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Orange County Convention Center. Last year 105 scouts attended the program.
There is no cost for the merit badge clinic. The program will run from 1:30 PM to approximately 4:00 PM. A scout who collects the minimum number of coins over the next few months will be able to finish the merit badge at the clinic.
About The F.U.N. Show
The coin show is the largest in the United States each year. Scouts and their families will have great time viewing all of the booths and learning about the art of collecting coins.
Please place a link to THIS post on your troop websites and make the fliers available at your round tables and training programs over the next month. Banners complete with HTML code for linking are available for your use

F.U.N Welcomes The Troops!
I had the pleasure of talking to many of the scouts arriving to take part in the Coin Collecting Merit Badge Program. Here are a few pictures of the friends I made at the 2011 Summer FUN registration booth.
Troop 10 Apopka

While their parent/guardian (Danny Javorowsky) made sure everyone was registered and all checked in for some FUN! Troop 10 from Apopka anxiously waited. The boys (pictured above) Nick Javorowsky, Charlie Ahrems, Jay Parsons, Juvon Treasure and Zach Kaminsky agreed to pose for me before heading off to participate in the Young Numismatists morning program, and later the Boy Scout Merit Badge clinic.

I caught up with Zachary Noble and Hunter Sloser of Troop 631 (pictured above) at the registration desk. They were accompanied by their mothers Annalena Noble and Dolly Slosser who were both busy making sure their sons were enrolled in both the Y/N morning program and the Boy Scout Merit Badge Clinic. I whisked the boys off to pose in front of the entrance to the FUN Convention. They did their best to Strike A Pose for the camera and were all smiles before the show. Thanks guys you two were quite charming. :)
Scouts Find The Hobo Nickel Booth
There is a rumor going around that the
Hobo Nickel Society has the best candy at the FUN Show. Well, I'm here to tell you that rumor is true. And it seems those crafty Boy Scouts of Troop 551 of Clermont and Troop 370 of Titusville found it!

I had to pleasure of watching Hobo Nickel carver Rollie Taylor of the
Hobo Nickel Society interact with the young people who visited his booth. He truly is a kind man with a loving spirit. This spirit shined through while he told the boys the code of the Hobo. It was all about taking care of one another and sharing what you have. Rollie shared elongated cents with the boys and made sure they had plenty to take back to the rest of the troop.
So if you plan to attend the 2012 FUN show. Be sure, to stop by the Hobo Nickel booth and share something with Rollie and his fellow carvers. I promise, they'll give you something back in return, some candy perhaps? an elongated cent? Or perhaps some carving instruction.
Girl Scouts Rock!
The ratio of Boy Scouts to Girl Scouts at the FUN Show is surely lacking, 99% to 1%? I would like to correct that by encouraging more Girl Scouts to get involved in coin collecting. C'mon! It isn't just for boys! There are
Women in Numismatics. Make it The Hobby of Kings Queens!
If you are reading this journal entry and are interested in earning the Girl Scout, Fun With Money patch, why not send your scout leader a link to THIS post. Let them know about FUN's Coin Collecting Merit Badge program. Lets make sure to show some Girl Power at the next merit badge clinic.

These ladies know how to have some FUN with money! It was a pleasure talking with these young women. I hope to see them again at the next FUN show.
