Truro police in February charged Wayne Martin, 45, with stealing thousands of dollars worth of gold and silver coins from his mother's Truro home.
According to the police report, Martin's mother told police she had hidden gold coins in her home, and when she was in the hospital in February 2013, her son took those coins, valued at $2,016. She also said he stole her deceased husband's silver coins with unknown value, the report says.
Martin's mother told police she made out a will and had appointed Martin as the executor. Martin was the only one who knew the coins existed and where she had hidden them, the police report says.

10,000 coins discovered near doomsday-style bunker The FBI says a Romanian couple set to be deported from Washington state left behind a doomsday-style bunker and millions of dollars in gold and silver coins.
NBC reports Radu and Diana Nemes were both wanted in Romania for alleged tax evasion. According to court documents, Radu, along with others in Romania, sold about one million tons of fuel and lied about what type it was in order to save nearly $70 million in taxes. Diana is accused of putting all that extra money into the bank.
Fox News says the two were arrested on their more than 50-acre property back in March. When investigators searched it, they found a hidden bunker, several illegally owned guns and gold and silver coins buried underground.
According to the Daily Mail, investigators found more than 10,000 gold and silver coins. But the outlet adds more than $2.7 million is still unaccounted for.
KIRO reports the hidden bunker had beds, a kitchen, clothes and tons of food. After they were arrested, Diana reportedly tried fighting her arrest because she's pregnant and has two other kids.
But the judge ended up ruling against her. The Nemes family was in the Seattle area on visitor's visas, which have recently expired. Court documents say they moved to the U.S. in 2012.
According to KOMO, the couple was in the process of building a 6,000 square-foot log cabin on their property when they were arrested.
So far, it's not clear exactly when they could be deported back to Romania.

Marietta Daily Journal Tucson police say potential victims can view recovered stolen jewelry, coins
Tucson police say potential victims can view recovered stolen jewelry, coins Potential victims of stolen jewelry, and collectible coins and paper currency will be able to view recovered items that were linked to a trafficking in stolen property case. The items were recovered in February from the home of David Reid who was arrested after being linked to buying stolen jewelry and firearms, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
The items will be available for viewing June 3 at 9 a.m. at the police department's evidence facility at 945 E. Ohio Street, said Widmer. Those wishing to view the items must have a case report number related to the types of items stolen to be allowed entry, Widmer said. In addition to jewelry, collectible coins and paper currency, items on display will include pocket watches and silver dishware. For questions on the viewing, persons can call 837-7808.
In October, police received information and began an investigation into Reid purchasing large amounts of stolen gold and silver jewelry, Widmer said. Reid melted down the jewelry for its metal content, and the metal was reshaped into bars and sold to precious metal dealers, said Widmer.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Reid's home in the 1500 block of North Columbus Lane, which is south of East Pima Street and east of North Columbus Boulevard. Investigators found large amounts of gold and silver jewelry, and coins with an estimated value of $228,000, said Widmer. Other items included two stolen firearms and more than $3,000 in cash, he said. Continue Reading At The Source

Arizona woman faces long sentence in coin theft PRESCOTT, Az. A judge says a woman accused of stealing her former boyfriend's retirement horde of gold coins and using some of the loot to buy cars faces as much as 665 years in prison if convicted. The Daily Courier reports that Judge Jennifer Campbell of Yavapai County Superior Court calculated the potential sentence for Cheryl Clement while reviewing the case against the 59-year-old woman.
Clement began Monday's court hearing by trying to apologize to the victim, but the judge warned her to not say anything that could make her ineligible for a plea bargain offered by prosecutors.
Even under the offered plea agreement, according to the judge, Clement could be sentenced to more than 50 years in prison. Prosecutors say the coins were worth more than $100,000.

Off-duty cop disarms, arrests robber in West Side coin shop MANCHESTER An observant off-duty police officer disarmed and arrested a robber who pulled out a knife and threatened the clerk at Bob’s Coins of Manchester Wednesday afternoon.
“He got him running out the door,” said the clerk at the 378 Kelley St. coin shop on the city’s West Side. Officer Mike Buckley was off-duty when he arrived at Bob’s Coin Store in his vehicle and observed a male wearing a surgical or construction-type mask enter the store just ahead of him, according to Manchester police spokesman Lt. Maureen Tessier.
Tessier said Buckley also went into the store and noticed the man standing at the counter still wearing the mask. The man, apparently aware he was attracting attention, implied the mask was a precautionary measure due to allergies, but Buckley remained suspicious of him.
Buckley, not wanting to escalate an uncertain situation, proceeded with a brief transaction and left the store, retrieving his service weapon from his vehicle parked out front and identifying himself as a police officer to a nearby construction crew, alerting them to his suspicions.
Moments later, the suspect exited the store with the female clerk running after him yelling about a robbery attempt. Buckley was able to detain him at gunpoint without further incident. The suspect was compliant, following orders to lie on the ground, where Buckley and two construction workers were able to hold him until on-duty officers arrived to assist.
The investigation revealed that the man had entered the store, ultimately producing a knife and demanding cash. The clerk did not comply, instead calling out for police and scaring off the robber, who left the store empty-handed only to encounter Buckley outside. The suspect was identified as Ralph Blackey, 40, of Manchester.
No one was hurt in the incident which occurred about 12:30 p.m., Manchester police Sgt. Richard Brennan said. Continue Reading At The Source

Gold coin scammer gets 7 years for stealing from elderly clientsAfter stealing $2.5 million from elderly clients, including a retired missionary couple, while living in mansions and tooling around in a pair of Porsches, the huckster adopted a limp as he walked to the court lectern.
James Burg cried and vowed to U.S. District Judge John Kane that he would adopt an austere lifestyle so he could repay what he could. His life has completely changed, he insisted. But then Kane told Burg that his regrets, however sincere they may appear to be, "simply isn't enough."
Kane on Thursday sentenced the 63-year-old gold coin dealer to 7½ years in a federal prison for mail fraud and failing to file tax returns. The consecutive sentence is about a year longer than the maximum sentence suggested by federal guidelines, the judge said.
"Judges cannot sentence out of anger, but it is very difficult in this case. This is pure and simple greed. The theft of their hope," Kane said, referring to more than 30 victims, many of whom lost life savings. Continue Reading At The Source
