Household Order Limits Placed on Baseball Coin Coin Goes On Sale TODAY! March 27

WASHINGTON-New feedback that indicates extremely strong demand for the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins, and a commitment to satisfy all customers, has prompted the United States Mint to impose new household ordering limits. The coins go on sale at noon Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) March 27.

The household order limits are:
Proof and Uncirculated $5 Gold Coins - 50 coins each
Proof and Uncirculated Silver Dollars - 100 coins each
Proof and Uncirculated Clad Half-Dollars - 100 coins each

"These coins commemorate important aspects of American history and culture, so we want to make sure a maximum number of customers have an opportunity to purchase this coin," said United States Mint Deputy Director Dick Peterson. "We had anticipated strong interest in this coin from the outset. However, the interest in the past few days prior to the coin even going on sale has caused us to take this action. We will evaluate these ordering limits on a regular basis and adjust or remove them accordingly."

Orders will be accepted at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468), while hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT. All domestic orders will be assessed a shipping and handling fee of $4.95 per order.

Public Law 112-152 authorizes the bureau to mint and issue up to 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins in recognition and celebration of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2014. The unique coins' reverses (tails sides) are convex to more closely resemble a baseball, and the obverses (heads sides) are concave with a design depicting a baseball glove. Customer demand will determine the ratio of proof to uncirculated coins minted within the authorized mintage limits.

The proof $5 gold coin (product code B31) and the uncirculated $5 gold coin (product code B32) will be available at a price determined by the United States Mint's pricing strategy for precious metals numismatic products located at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog. The coins are being minted at the United States Mint's facility in West Point and are composed of 90 percent gold.

The proof $1 silver coin (product code B33) is available at the introductory price of $51.95 through April 28 at 5 p.m. EDT and $56.95 thereafter. The uncirculated $1silver coin (product code B33) will be available at the introductory price of $47.95 through April 28 at 5 p.m. EDT and $52.95 thereafter. The coins are being minted at the United States Mint's facility in Philadelphia and are composed of 90 percent silver.

The proof half-dollar clad coin (product code B35) is available at the introductory price of $19.95 through April 28 at 5 p.m. EDT and $ 23.95 thereafter. The uncirculated half-dollar clad coin (product code B36) will be available at the introductory price of $18.95 through April 28 at 5 p.m. EDT and $22.95 thereafter. The proof half-dollar clad coin is being produced at the United States Mint's facility in San Francisco, and the uncirculated half-dollar clad coin is being minted at the United States Mint's facility in Denver. Both coins are composed of 92 percent copper.

Surcharges of $35 for each $5 gold coin sold, $10 for each silver $1 coin sold, and $5 for each half-dollar clad coin sold are authorized to be paid to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, an independent not-for-profit educational institution, to help fund its operations.

2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Proof Silver Dollar (B33)
Baseball has been an integral part of American culture almost since the game began. Connecting generations and unifying the spirit of our Nation, baseball has mirrored our history since the Civil War and is known as our national pastime.

Join the United States Mint and National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum as we celebrate its “diamond” anniversary with the National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Program! The 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Proof Silver Dollar, along with the other coins in this program, are the first curved coins ever produced by the United States Mint.

Chosen after a nationwide competition, the obverse (heads) glove design was inspired by a well-loved and well-used family glove. Inscriptions on the obverse are LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2014.

The reverse (tails) design depicts a baseball similar to those used by Major League Baseball® Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE DOLLAR.

Together, the glove and baseball designs represent the most basic elements of the game, whether played in the backyard, local ballpark, or professional leagues. The natural curves of the glove and baseball are captured in this unique dome-shaped coin.

Introductory price: The introductory price of $51.95 will be in effect from noon ET on March 27, 2014, through 5 p.m. ET on April 28, 2014, after which the regular price of $56.95 will be in effect.

Order limits on baseball coins. At the 11th hour the Mint has decided to place order limits on tomorrow’s debut of the National Baseball Hall of Fame commemoratives.

Instead, the Mint received 5,400 calls. The limits will be 50 each for proof and uncirculated $5 gold pieces, 100 each for proof and uncirculated silver dollars and 100 each for the proof and uncirculated clad half dollars.

Description Copied From YouTube
The United States mint at San Francisco will reportedly be unveiling the first curved coin. One side of the monetary piece will feature a baseball while the flip side is going to showcase a glove.

The concaved aspect references the unique shape of the baseball glove. The coins have not yet entered into production, but it has been confirmed that the pieces will be produced very soon.

Called the Hall of Fame coin, it is scheduled to go on sale on March 27th of this year and will be available in 50-cent, $1 silver and $5 gold denominations.

The price for the coins has not been determined. They will honor the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, which will be celebrating it's 75th anniversary this year.

28-year-old Cassie McFarland is the California based artist who designed the coin. She was deemed the winner of a U.S. Treasury contest called The Baseball Coin Design competition.

Her winning design just barely made it in. She submitted her proposal on the final day before the deadline.

Said McFarland 'I hate to say this, but I almost feel like it was my destiny. The idea of the glove ... it just clicked.'
