Servant's Quarters, room 4, Tuesday Evening, 9-25-07

Sep 25, 2007 22:40

Sousuke stood with his cellphone in hand, looking out the window of his dorm room as he made his report to his superiors at Mithril. Due to the state of his shoulder, he'd been unable to type, and was thus forced to deliver the information over their secure line.

Kaname had arrived outside door in time to catch the outburst and the sounds of property damage and was understandably alarmed. Rushing into the room, she stopped abruptly at the scene before her eyes and stared, confused.

"Sousuke?"

At the sound of her voice, his fist fell from the nice dent he'd made in the plaster.

"They let him go," he said in a dull tone of voice, not even bothering to turn his head towards her.

"Who? What's going on?" she asked anxiously, shutting the door behind her and making her way into the room. "Are you alright?"

"Leonard." There was a world of contempt put into that single name. "The police let him go."

He glanced over his shoulder at her. "I should have killed him when I had the chance."

It was pretty safe to say that no, he wasn't all right.

"Oh..." Kaname went pale and a tiny surge of fear went through her. She hadn't really realized how much of a comfort it was that her kidnapper was behind bars until now, upon the news that he wasn't.

And the boy's following words did little to put her at ease. Frowning, she looked up at him. "Sousuke, no. You did the right thing."

He whirled around suddenly and glared at her. "Letting him live was the 'right thing'? Why, so he could come back here and try it again? Do you really think he's just going to give up, Kaname? That he's just going to leave you alone now?"

Sousuke wasn't exactly known for raising his voice, but he sure was doing it now.

Being glared at in addition to a verbal assault wasn't exactly what she'd been expecting and Kaname recoiled a little under the force of the two combined.

"You don't have to yell at me," she countered, obviously upset and then took a few tentative steps forward closing the distance between them. "You think I don't know all of that? But was the right thing to do..." The blue haired girl trailed off because she really had no idea how to add, Because I don't want you to 'kill' for me, without acknowledging how very disturbing that he would do so was to her.

He pulled away from her, wincing inwardly at the pain in his shoulder it caused, though it barely registered on his face.

"The right thing would have been to end it, right there. People like him don't stop. They just keep coming after you, over and over until they win. What are we supposed to do? They won't even let me go after him. He can do whatever the hell he wants, with all of Amalgam's resources at his disposal. What do I have to protect you? A hand gun and some rubber bullets. I don't even have a back up, anymore."

Kaname managed to turn and clear the room before she burst into tears but not by much. There was a muffled sob and then the door slammed behind her leaving the room in silence.

He stared at the closed door for a long moment, knowing he'd just done the wrong thing, but unable to fight through the anger enough to care right then.

Instead, he sank down on the bed, putting a hand to his throbbing shoulder and cursing under his breath when his hand came away wet.
