An evening in...

Jul 25, 2007 23:36

After falling asleep on the lawn last night (and having what he could only assume was one very odd dream) Sousuke had decided he needed to concentrate on getting himself back on track. Clearly, if he was out-of-sorts enough to fall asleep outside, he wasn't going to be of any use to Kaname. Thusly, he was spending the evening going through ( Read more... )

It was a sign of how attached to the boy Kaname had become when she actually began to worry if she hadn't seen him on any given day. That was most definitely why she was standing in front of his door in the Servants Quarters... but she could always mask it with offerings of food.

Knock, knock.

Hrm. He wasn't expecting anyone. He set down the books he was organizing on the folding table that also held his laptop, and walked over to the door. He opened it a crack and peeked out into the hallway.

"Chidori."

He probably should have expected that.

Kaname sighed and held out yes, yet another overly large bento. "Sousuke. You have got to start calling me by my first name."

"One moment."

The door closed, followed by suspicious noises, before it opened again, this time far enough to let her into the room. He didn't say anything about the name comment, mostly because he was hoping he could ignore it.

Kaname stood looking perplexed at the noises coming from behind the door and then stood looking perplexed at the boy responsible. "What was that?" she demanded, walking into the room and shoving her parcel at him.

The name comment? Bound to be harped on again at a future date but for now she was distracted by the pathetic excuse for furniture he'd acquired.

"There was an incident last week, and I decided to increase security. I had a tear gas canister rigged to go off if anyone entered without me disarming it."

This, of course, seemed perfectly rational to him. He put the bento down on the table with the computer and books.

Kaname's jaw dropped. "You booby trapped your room with tear gas? What the Hell's wrong with you?!" And yes, her harisen did make friends with the back of his head.

He stumbled a step. She was good with that thing. "There was a levitating book. I assume it must have been some kind of advanced technology, as it didn't seem to be held in the air by anything. I wanted to eliminate the chance of further disturbances."

She stared at him incredulously. "A levitating book? Sousuke, are you feeling alright?"

"Yes, I'm fine..." Best not to mention the skeletal rat or falling asleep on the lawn, probably.

Because, really, she'd never known him to make up things. In fact, she suspected that he completely lacked the imagination. "Hmm.." She gave him a doubtful look. "This have anything to do with the supposed existential crisis you were having out on the lawn last night?"

No. This was last week. Last night..." He trailed off, and went to inspect the bento, which wasn't exactly like him. He was being a bit evasive, all told. "I was simply tired of being indoors," he replied eventually.

No, it wasn't like him, and that point wasn't lost on Kaname as she watched him walk off towards the table, looking concerned.

The bento inspected Sousuke back.

"Hey," she said, following him, and standing close enough to peer around him, "I'm not stupid, you know. What's wrong?"

"This looks very good. You must have spent a lot of time on it." The steamed bun especially got a little smile out of him.

"It's nothing," he replied without turning around. "I was just tired, and I wanted to be outside."

If she was blushing, it was still totally just the Louisiana weather. Really.

"I did, so you'd better enjoy it!" she teased. Oh yes. There's the over bearing nervous bravado she's famous for again.

"Don't try to change the subject though. I don't believe you," she pouted may or may not have pouted.

"I'm sure I will." He always did appreciate her efforts.

He stepped away from the bento and sat down in the nearby folding chair with a sigh. "I don't know. Everything... should be fine. The school is fine, I don't have any demands from Mithril, and this town is small enough that protecting you is easier than it was in Tokyo."
