Ye gods... America cannot do this. It doesn't matter how many accusations are levelled, war with Iran is such a bad idea. If the west keeps on overturning middle eastern governments (especially as we REPEATEDLY ignore or even support truly vile regimes elsewhere), especially ones with oil or useful locations for pipelines we will cause chaos. Pakistan is three steps away from a theocracy. Jordan and Saudi Arabia monarchies are not stabel (I like neither regime, but this could lead to an increasingly angry and violent uprisings across the middle east - not in the name of demoacracy, but in the name of theocracy) even Egypt is bucking on a swell of theocratic pressure.

And America doesn't have the forces - this will be worse than Iraq. Iran is not crippled or disarmed like Iraq. Iran has an army and America has a severe overstretch problem (to say nothing of a funding problem - America cannot afford another war. Not without risking even more severe deficits). There will be little to no foreign support. Blair and even Berlusconi are politically too weak after the debacle of Iraq. Poland and the Netherlands are already pulling out. Most of the rest of Europe and the world will not act without UN sanction - and since China now has some very lucrative oil and gas deals with Iran, that is unlikely. Too many have been burned in Iraq.

I fear it might happen, but no good can come of it - for anyone.
