“Okay, everyone take ten, and then, let’s move on,” Ryan yells, and sends the cast scurrying from their plastic seats in the rehearsal room to their personalized seats and iPhones. Heather hops up and makes her way to the director as he discusses the previous scene with his assistant.
“We’re up next, right?” Heather asks, nodding at Naya in her seat. The brunette looks up, grins when she catches Heather looking at her, and turns back to her iPhone.
“Yeah, it’s your scene,” Ryan answers quickly, glancing down at the script and quickly reading over a few notes.
“Have you picked a song yet? There was a blank in the script.”
“Uh, yeah, it’s Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl,” Ryan answers distractedly, scratching under the hem of his hat, and turns back to his script. Heather nods, processing, but both Ryan and she look up when they hear someone snort derisively behind them.
“Seriously?” Naya chortles, raising an eyebrow in disdain. Heather holds back a smile. She can already see the problem.
“What?” Ryan asks incredulously.
“Isn’t that a bit… obvious?”
Ryan frowns and purses his lips. Heather can see him thinking of a quick reply to settle the matter, and she pipes up, “It’s just that… wouldn’t that be a bit over the top? I think it’ll be clear from our scene that we’re a little more than friends, right?”
Ryan’s disapproving frown turns into a thoughtful one. “Yeah, I suppose.”
“Wouldn’t a less obvious song make Santana’s reaction more realistic?”
“Well, no,” Ryan protests. “She’s reacting to the lesbian themes in the song Brittany suggests. She doesn’t want to be thought of as gay by her Glee friends.”
“Isn’t it more than the song Santana is reacting to?” Heather presses. Ryan continues to look thoughtful.
“Yeah. As they’re making out, Brittany suggests they do a lesbian-themed duet, together, in front of everyone, and Santana freaks about that, not the song choice. Gay panic much?” Naya continues for Heather from her seat.
“Okay, yeah. You’re right,” Ryan finally concedes with a smile. Heather and Naya lock eyes with a smile. “Any suggestions for a different song?”
Before Heather can even start to think about other songs, she hears Naya say determinedly from behind her, “Come To My Window, by Melissa Etheridge.”
Heather and Ryan turn completely to Naya, and Ryan asks incredulously, “What?”
“Trust me,” Naya continues. “Total lesbian anthem. Any viewer who knows the meaning behind it will be satisfied, and any who don’t probably won’t be overanalyzing Santana’s reaction anyway.”
A techie calls Ryan’s name, and he half-turns to the sound before turning back and saying distractedly, “Okay, that’s fine. That’s the song.”
Naya and Heather smile in triumph, and Heather pulls her chair up next to Naya. The brunette lifts her phone to make space for Heather’s legs as the blonde nonchalantly drapes them over her lap, and hides a smirk as her best friend starts absentmindedly twitching her foot.
“So, how did you know the meaning behind that song, then?” Heather asks with a smile. Naya just looks up, smirks wider, and pinches the blonde just above her knee, making her laugh and protest. “Stop, that tickles!”
“Heather, Naya, you’re up,” another techie calls, and Heather reluctantly moves her legs to they can follow him to Brittany’s bedroom set. As they walk over, Heather links her pinkie with Naya’s. In response to the brunette’s raised eyebrow, she says softly, “Just getting into character.”
Naya laughs. As they make their way into the bedroom, she say cheerfully, “Come on, this’ll be hilarious,” and squeezes Heather’s pinky. Heather matches her smile.

“Aaaand… Action!” Ryan calls, and the studio falls silent as the camera begins to pan across Brittany’s room and over Heather and Naya’s entwined legs. Naya nuzzles Heather’s neck and the blonde smiles, but Ryan interrupts, “Wait, wait, Naya, roll off Heather a bit. We’ll never get it approved if you guys are laying completely on each other.”
“Why do they always make the sets so cold?” Heather mumbles with a shiver when Naya reluctantly rolls off her. The brunette nudges her legs and rubs her sock-clad feet against Heather’s.
“We’ll warm up soon enough,” Naya whispers back, folding her arms beneath her and letting Heather wrap her arms around her. When they are settled, Naya playfully runs her toes over the soles of Heather’s feet, and she feels Heather begin to laugh beneath her.
“Stop, that tickles!” she hisses softly. Naya just smirk in response.
“Okay, again!” Ryan calls, and the camera pans again. Naya nuzzles and kisses Heather’s neck, the beat of her pulse and the vibrations of her voice tickling Naya’s lips as Heather says, “I love your sweet lady kisses.”
“Mm-hmm,” Naya says, and begins to pull back. “It’s a nice break from all that scissoring.” She leans forward again, brushing her lips over Heather’s, and presses closer in a quick kiss.
“No, no, cut!” Ryan interrupts again. “Girls, you can’t actually kiss.”
Naya’s grin turns into a disappointed scowl. “Why not?”
“Ratings board won’t approve it,” Ryan says apologetically.
“So, we can lay on a bed together, neck, and talk about scissoring, but we can’t kiss on the lips?” Naya asks incredulously.
Ryan shrugs and nods.
“Okay, fine,” Naya says with resignation, and settles back to kiss Heather’s neck, whispering, “Such BS…”
Heather laughs softly and whispers back, “It’s just one scene, Naya…”
Naya stays silent as the camera begins to pan again.
“I love your sweet lady kisses,” Heather repeats with a smile.
“Mm-hmm. It’s a nice break from all that scissoring,” Naya recites, and leans forward to place a kiss next to Heather’s lips. Heather watches her come close, and automatically moves her face at the last second to catch her lips. Naya pulls away with an amused grin as an exasperated Ryan exclaims, “Girls!”
“Sorry!” Heather squeaks, and both girls fall into a fit of laughter.
“Stop trying to kiss me on the lips!” Heather whispers with a giggle after they have settled back into place.
“Stop turning to my lips when I’m trying to miss!” Naya murmurs back against Heather’s skin. Once again, the camera begins to move. This time, Naya’s kiss lands where it is supposed to, and the scene goes on as Ryan sighs in relief.
“We should do a duet together,” Heather continues as Naya kisses her neck. “We should sing Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed - oh crap!” Heather exclaims with a jolt, causing Naya’s kiss to fall embarrassingly low on her collarbone and one of her hands - curled beneath her body - to land even lower and on an even more embarrassing spot. The brunette pulls back and raises her eyebrows, quickly moving her hand. Heather’s ears turn red.
“It’s ‘Come To My Window’, Heather,” Ryan reminds her, oblivious to the accidental boob grab. The girls brush it off; it’s not that awkward.
“I know! Sorry! That ‘I Kissed A Girl’ song got stuck in my head…” Heather mumbles.
Naya grins mischievously and quips, “Why? Because you just did?”
“Hey, you did too!” Heather retaliates and squirms beneath Naya playfully.
“Yeah, but I’m getting my lines right…”
“Again!” Ryan says loudly, and the girls can hear him getting annoyed.
“Whoops, better do the scene right…” Heather says apologetically.
“Are you just messing up so that I’ll keep kissing you?” Naya jokes.
“Ha, you wish,” Heather replies, nuzzling her feet against Naya’s. Naya leans down and blows a raspberry against her neck, making the blonde giggle.
“Action!” Ryan yells.
This time, the scene goes well: kisses land where they are supposed to, the song names go according to plan, and though Heather shivers briefly at the cold when Naya moves away to do up her hair, the scene ends satisfactorily, and Ryan calls “Okay, cut! Well done, girls!”
Heather and Naya make their way off the set and to their personal chairs. It’s quiet on the set. Naya flops down and picks up her iPhone.
“What are you doing?” Heather asks.
“Tweeting about the cancer telethon.”
“Oh yeah. Too bad we couldn’t make it.” Heather comes up behind her and looks over her shoulder as Naya types. “… ‘shot a really great scene that I KNOW everyone will love!’ Mm, really, Naya?” she reads out, raising an eyebrow playfully.
“Of course they will. Fans have been waiting for this forever.”
“Well, we both know you definitely loved it,” Heather quips playfully, brushing her cheek against Naya’s from behind her.
“Puh-leaase,” Naya says with a grin, turning to Heather. “Your ears are still on fire.”
Heather covers her ears with both hands and blushes. When Naya turns back to her phone, Heather quickly places a kiss on Naya’s cheek and whispers, “Love you.”
Naya just smiles contentedly.
