Julian was curled up against Nick's side, the two of them laying haphazardly in the treehouse that was quickly becoming too small for both of them. In the back of his mind he realized it was a good thing they had gotten this close, and were able to lay close together

"I'll try," he whispered. "Nick... Nick said he'd take care of me... And I'll have Dad, but... I'll miss you."

Izumi lay there, her chest rising and falling slightly as she labored to breath. "Call for your father," she said weakly.

Julian sat up and looked down at Izumi worriedly. "Mom? Are you okay?"

Izumi smiled up at him wanly. "Just call for him, please."

"O-okay," Julian mumbled, and scooted off the bed to run from the room. He found Hohenheim in the kitchen, and his father smiled weakly at him. "Dad, mom wants you..." he said.

Hohenheim's smile wavered for a moment, but he stood and squeezed Julian's shoulder comfortingly as he moved to leave the kitchen. "Why don't you sit down, and I'll come and make you something to eat in a minute?" At Julian's weak nod, Hohenheim smiled at him one last time before turning away to hurry up the stairs.

"Izumi?" He asked, closing their door behind him as he came toward her. "Are you alright?"

"I meant for you both to be here," Izumi said, reaching out to grab his hand.

"Are you sure you want him to see..." Hohenheim whispered, brushing her hair back from her forehead.

"He's old enough," she murmured, "He should be here."

She looked up at Hohenheim mournfully. "Will you be alright without me?"

"There you go again, always asking me questions that have no safe answer." Hohenheim murmured.

"You'll take care of Julian, won't you? He'll need you."
