Well, I've just arrived home from the university where I learned that due to the farmer's strike tomorrow and the risk that the whole city will be blocked, we do not have class tomorrow! The whole campus will be shut down. I asked about five people at the university to confirm that I don't have to teach tomorrow...and it is indeed true. We have a three-day weekend!
The French students all laugh at my disbelief when situations like this occur.
On the one hand, I'm quite happy to have some extra time, but on the other, I prepared all of my courses for tomorrow. Plus, Fridays are usually good days for me...if we're going to get a random day off, it should be Monday!
And here in France, we're expected to "make up" our hours when things like this happen...quite impossible to make up classes with 10-20 students who all have their own lives and schedules, not to mention the fact that classrooms at the university are hard to come by. I think that I'd rather just have class!
