Part Six

‘Hunting’ for the night was in fact heading back to the vampire clan’s castle in yet another attempt to find their missing Alpha, and though he knew he should be concentrating, his thoughts kept straying back towards Jinki… and how he was slowly but surely ruining his chances with him. Not that he should care -especially with what he had planned for him as a last case scenario- but still, his wolf was furious, blue eyes glaring out at him in his mind.

Jonghyun was crouched beside him in the tree, while Yifan checked the perimeters around the castle on foot. His friend looked over at him knowingly, glowing eyes seeming to assess his inner struggles.

“I take it today didn’t go too well for you.”

“He’s infuriating, and the more my wolf wants me to take care of him, the more I feel like doing the opposite. Just to prove I’m me, that I’m still in control.”

Jonghyun rolled his eyes. “This is why you’re going to have issues becoming Alpha, dude. You are the least intuned werewolf I have ever met. Just because there’s another side to us doesn’t make us two separate entities. You have instincts, urges, and if you’d stop fighting them for five fucking seconds you’d realize that’s how it’s meant to be. We aren’t human, so quit acting like one.”

“The idiot’s right,” Yifan called up to them, signaling at the same time that the coast was clear, the other two wolves jumping down to land at his side. “If you weren’t so constricting with your wolf he wouldn’t seem like such a completely different entity to you, but then, all the strongest have this problem. Your wolf is just too much for you to handle.”

“He is not,” Minho growled.

“He will be if you keep suppressing him like you are now,” Yifan deadpanned.

“I don’t need to hear this from you, puppy.”

“No he’s right for once,” Jonghyun said, eyes widening in realization. “I’ve got it! Give him control for a day, or at least a few hours every day.”

“Are you insane? No.”

“Then just when you’re around Jinki. It’s not a big secret you don’t like the leech much, so let your wolf take over until you do. You are seriously shooting yourself in the foot with your mate already and I’d hate to see the damage be irreparable. Vampires don’t feel compelled to stay with someone for life like we do, so give him a reason to stick around. And besides, the more you let your wolf out when in human form, the easier it will be to work harmoniously.”

“…have you been reading the dictionary again?”

Jonghyun snorted. “Give me some credit, asshole. I may not be the smartest wolf in the pack, but when it comes to instinct, I’m all animal. I’ve never once fought my wolf on anything because I trust that side of myself, and I turned out just fine.”

Yifan scoffed at that statement. “Debatable.”

But before Jonghyun could verbally attack the younger wolf, or worse, physically, Minho spoke up, “Somehow I don’t think letting my wolf fuck him into oblivion is going to make him hate me less. Pretty sure he’s planning on killing me as we speak.”

Jonghyun shrugged at that statement, before Yifan finally spoke up again. “Get him a gift then. Bitches love gifts.”

“Oh,Yixing is quite the lucky man,” Jonghyun mocked.

“Bite me.”

“With pleasure,” he growled back at Yifan threateningly, the two squaring off, bumping chests, well, sort of, what with Jonghyun's height and all.

But before a petty fight broke out -which to be honest was quite common when these two alphas were together- Minho stepped between them. “We’ve stalled long enough, idiots, save this for later. Yifan, head around the back and scope out the entrance towards the dungeons. Jonghyun, head into the village and see if you can learn anything from the humans, if they hear howls from the castle, anything like that. Pay them if you have to.”

“And what will you be doing, Mr. Wolf Prince?”

Minho craned his head until he was looking at the window he’d jumped out of only days before. Sighing, he mumbled, “I’m gonna get my bitch a present.”

Scaling the tower was easy enough, and when he finally reached the top, he was relieved to see that though the window had been fixed... it had also been left open.

Climbing easily into the room, the word 'present' falling silently from his lips like a mantra, he headed over to the bookshelf first… at least, to where the bookshelf had been a few days ago, yet now a vanity mirror that practically took over the entire wall stood in its place. Looking around the room quizzically, he realized nothing was the same as it had been. This wasn’t Jinki’s room anymore, he thought, scenting the air, this was someone else’s. Did vampires get over things that quickly? He knew their hearts didn’t beat, but still, this was… heartless, even for them.

And wasn’t Jinki their prince? Why weren’t they out looking for him? Well, he amended, they had built up a rather heinous reputation of themselves for a reason. The leeches probably thought they ate him during some full moon orgy… which now that he thought about it was a great idea. On both accounts.

Fuck, what the hell was he supposed to do for a present now?

But his head whipped to the door before he had time to snoop further, quiet footsteps being heard from the hallway. Feeling like a complete idiot, he dove under the bed seconds before the door opened, revealing a dainty vampire with disheveled blonde hair. The creature yawned and stretched before crinkling his nose up in disgust and heading over to the window.

“I swear, this place still reeks of animal,” the vampire grumbled in a haughty voice. Minho growled silently, slipping out from under the bed to stand behind the leech now sticking his head out the window for some ‘fresh air’.

By the time the little vampire registered a living heartbeat in the room, a hand was already clasped over his gasping mouth. Minho growled in earnest when teeth bit into his flesh, but he slammed the creature’s jaws shut before he had time to drink from him fully, not that that had been his intent.

“Jinki’s things, where are they?”

The vampire in his grasp merely stared fearfully up at him, eyes widening even more at the mention of Jinki’s name. So he's alive, is he? Shame.

Unfortunately, it didn’t really matter where Jinki’s things were, making his question pointless; there was no way he was risking going into the vampires' fortress alone. A room was one thing, especially with such an accessible exit, but anything else he would have no idea what he was going up against, and at least with Jinki’s room he’d been there before, knew the layout.

He tried to ask more questions, but the little bastard wasn’t even attempting to speak into his hand, out of fear or no. He wasn’t talking, actually looked like he was about to be sick. And then a thought occurred to Minho. What if this vampire could telepathically talk with others? Were reinforcements  already on their way? And even if he couldn't, he had still mentioned Jinki, which meant, if this creature was at all smart, he’d know he was still alive. What was to stop him from telling others? Vampires and werewolves had been at war for centuries, but it’d be an all-out blood bath if they realized their prince was still alive, wouldn’t it?

Fuck, he was so in no position to make these kinds of decisions. If they didn’t find their Alpha soon, he was going to single handedly cause the downfall of werewolves everywhere.

Growling under his breath, he knocked the vampire out easily with a snap of his neck -he’d heal and wake up soon enough anyway- before hoisting him over his shoulder and once again jumping out the window. Well that was a scene he never thought he’d have to relive.

When he reached the treeline, he sent up a howl. No use in having the other two risking their lives if he was useless now. When only one howl returned -Jonghyun’s- a chill crept up his spine, but the new captive in his arms was already healing, moving slightly in his grasp.

Jonghyun, find out where Yifan is, I need to head farther into the woods.

You got it.

That was the great thing about Jonghyun. Even if he was curious as to why Minho wasn’t seeing to the situation himself, he followed orders to a fault. Shoot first, ask questions later, as it were.

Hopefully if this leech was telepathic, the farther he was away from other vampires, the less it would work, much like how his did. Of course, the vampires must know how to neutralize their pack link now. He’d tried multiple times to get in contact with his Alpha, to no avail, though they could just be knocking him out repeatedly or keeping him unconscious like he was with this vampire now, he supposed. Still, the more distance between him and the vampire keep, the better. He didn't want to take any chances.

Of course, he couldn’t even pretend to know how vampires worked, so this theory of his was on the verge of pointless, much like this entire hunt had been, he thought bitterly, snapping the creature’s neck again absently when he began to wake, before finally hunkering down against an oak tree, vampire in a heap at his feet.

This might have been the one of the few times Jinki would have been useful to have around. Yet the fact that he was even thinking that was proof of how out of hand this entire situation was getting. Vampires and werewolves had never played well together, and he wasn’t naïve enough to think his wolf wanting to mate with one was going to solve any such problems. All he wanted to do was find their Alpha, go home, and leave all this ridiculous mating business behind him.

He laughed humorlessly, claws scratching grooves into the ground at his sides. There was no going back to normal for Minho. He had tried to keep things the way they were these past few days -running under the full moon with the pack, trying to keep his relationship with Yuri going- but everything had turned out… wrong. He’d had to hunt Jinki down that night instead of being with his kin, and after his wolf had claimed the little leech? There was no going back for his body.

When he had found out Yuri had attacked Jinki, he’d immediately went to see her first -his human side barely winning that mental argument- but as soon as he did, his wolf bared its fangs, hackles raised. Not only did he feel nothing for her romantically, he now felt hatred, disgust even, for what she had done to Jinki. His wolf saw her as an enemy. Normally he’d say fuck you and do what he wanted without his wolf’s approval, but ever since Jinki, the damn thing had almost as much control over his own body as he did. Not to mention if and when they did find their Alpha, once he found out he’d mated to a vampire, there’d be nothing left of him but bone slivers. He wouldn’t survive the year. And neither would Jinki.

And all this because he had a fucking vampire for a mate. His wolf still seemed fine with the idea, even now sat contentedly in his mind at even the thought of Jinki. What did this animal know that he didn’t? Instincts were one thing, but where were his survival ones? All this time clawing and biting their way into the second in command ranking of the pack, and for what? To be killed for who he was mated to?

But there was still hope. Until the mating moon, the pack wouldn’t truly acknowledge Jinki as his mate, and if enough of them opposed the mating, hopefully they’d have enough manpower to subdue his own wolf, successfully stopping the mating ritual all together. At least until the next mating moon, that is.

He sighed angrily. It wasn’t gonna happen. No way would any of the others want to go up against his wolf, especially not when mating was involved. Anyone that stood between him and his prey would be a dead wolf. His only hope now was to find their Alpha before that happened. At the very least, he could control him.

His wolf chuffed in his mind. The furry traitor was fine with leaving their Alpha to rot, as long as he got Jinki out of it. Become the next Alpha with Jinki at his side, problem solved. Animals. There was a reason he was in control of his body and not the other way around.

A/N: LJ is infuriating me. First it says my post is too large. Then it fucks with spacing, then it erases my italics. Guys, why is LJ becoming so bitch slappingly annoying? UGH. Okay Alanna, shake it off. Hope you enjoy this, part two shall be up momentarily. God willing LJ doesn't erase it or some shit.
