He knew that his father was keeping something from him. What, Stiles didn't know but it had be important. There was no other explanations for the whispered conversations that stopped every time he entered the room. Stiles wished he just knew what it was that made his father sad every time he looked at him or why he wasn't too happy every time Derek came around to take him out on a date.
He could understand his father disliking his boyfriend; after all Derek had been a suspect to murder at one point. Stiles just didn't know why John and Chris had been acting so weird lately. At first he thought that they might be splitting up; which kind of such because he actually liked his step-father. But then he caught them making out in the kitchen; blowing Stiles' theory out of the water.
Then Peter started sniffing around their house more often then not and it made Stiles wonder if he had something to do with his father's odd behavior. So when his fathers were gone, he did a bit of snooping around. What he didn't expect to find was a secret compartment underneath the floor boards in the attic. There in the small corner of the Stilinski house, Stiles found his birth certificate but no marriage license between his mother and father.
Sure, her name was listed as his mother but it looked like another name was whited out before hers was typed in. The same with his father's name; leaving a very perplexed Stiles to wonder what the fuck was going on. There was a part of him that wanted to confront his dad about his lies but the whole situation would be very much the pot calling the kettle black. After all he was keeping secrets of his own. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Stiles couldn't just ask John about what he was concealing from him without a little tit for tat.
Still, this new information brought up a lot of questions. Like who was he really and why was Peter showing more interest in him? Nothing made sense and it wouldn't until Stiles found out the truth. The only way of doing that was either spy on his father or interrogate Peter on his sudden stalkerish behavior.
Whatever was going on, Stiles had a feeling that he might be better off not knowing but that wasn't going to stop him from finding out exactly what his father was hiding from him.
