Everyone has their little secrets, even John Stilinski has a few things that he would never tell his son. Like the fact that there was some justification to why he didn’t want Stiles hanging around Derek Hale. That reason went by the name of Peter Hale. He had been thirteen years old when he first met the other boy. Back then, John had been shy and quiet, while Peter was gregarious and popular. He was the kind of guy that guys and girl crushed on; John was no exception.
They had been in all in the same classes throughout junior high and high school but Peter hadn’t noticed John until they became partners in Health. With an uneven of boys and girls in their class, they were always being paired up for projects. This time they had to take care of a baby. Becoming parents to a loud, crying doll hadn’t been easy but it had helped Peter to finally notice John. Cute with an easy going manner, the young teen captured Peter’s interest during the month as husbands.
After a lot of flirtation, he was able to get John to agree to one date with him. That night at a local Italian restaurant turned into John's first steady relationship. He had fallen in love with Peter over the course of several months and he saw a future with the other boy. Peter had been his first everything and John thought they were happy together. That was until a week before Prom when he caught Peter kissing some girl in middle the hallway before class.
In that moment, John wished that the Earth would just swallow him whole. The boy he loved; the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with had betrayed him for Celeste, a popular cheerleader. As was he pulled away from the scene by his best friends Melissa and Constance, John’s heart broke. He would never know why Peter had decided to cheat on him but nine months later he had a little reminder of his time together with Peter. For years John was a broken man; that was until Chris came into his life and he fell in love all over again.
It was because of Chris that John found out why was able to get pregnant with the asshole’s son. Peter was a werewolf and it made John believe that Peter had decided that betrayal was better than the truth. So while John had been able to move on with Chris, he would never forget his first love and Stiles’ true father. The memories would always remind John that the Hales could never and should never be trust; ever.
So he would do everything in his power to keep Stiles far away from the likes of Derek Hale.
