part 3 Derek's first reaction was to laugh, and ask the Sheriff his he was crazy. It was a tactic that had worked in the passed, still, this was Stiles's father , the man probity had stacks of evidence. So, instead his answer was silence.
“How long did you know about the werewolves? I mean, if there were werewolves...which why would you think there are werewolves Dad?”
“Because, Derek's parents were werewolves.”
The twin vociferation of , “you knew,” was quite comical, however Derek looked scared, while Stile's face wore an expression of awe.
“Of course I knew, you don't work with a man for years without noticing things, and I didn't just get voted in has Sheriff because of my good looks,” Stilinski relaxed in his chair as he reached down to grab another beer. “Plus, he lost some of his control when we were on a case once. A mother came out to the preserve, from down in Sacramento, with her three children all under the age of six. She killed all the children in the lake, said she would never find a man that wanted her with that many children already.”
Derek sat soundlessly, thinking of his father. He could easily see the man lose the almost perfect control over something like the senseless death of three young children, and by the hand of their own mother too. Family was as close to pack that humans could get.
“I never forget the look of your father with glowing blue eyes, I almost drew my gun and shot him, it scared the shit out of me. I think he knew it too. He looked at me hurt, and said something about the fact that she never thought about giving them to a family that could love them.”
“To werewolves, you don't need to be family to be in a pack. More likely then not, you have adopted outsiders that have been turned,” Derek explained quietly.
“Yea, I figured it. He wasn't wrong, I'm a father, and as much as Stiles can be a handful I couldn't kill him. Anyway, we talked, and I met your mother for the first time. The three of us decided, that they would keep silent about the fact I knew about the werewolves, and I would do the same. Your mother was worried, that if others found out that I knew, it would put my family in danger from some hunters that didn't follow the code.”
Derek only answer was to wordlessly nod, but Stiles could only stay mute for so long before he asked, “But, Dad, what about the fire? Didn't you try to investigate it knowing about werewolves and hunters?”
