"But d-a-a-a-a-a-a-d-d-d-d-d-d!"
Stiles was always fascinated by how many syllables Laurie could turn "dad' into... the more syllables, the bigger the tears that would go with it.
"I said 'no'. You cannot go." Stiles said firmly.
And... there were the crocodile tears. They flowed down the five-year-old's cheeks.
"But Davey said..." Laurie sobbed.
"Davey is older than you, and should know better!" Stiles grabbed a handful of tissues and picked up Laurie to sit on his lap.
"I wanna go!" Laurie protested, feet flailing in the air, as she twisted in Stiles lap.
"No." Stiles repeated. He held her firmly as he mopped up some of the tears.
Laurie collapsed against his chest, sobbing in despair. "I... wanna...hic... go!" A sad wail. The saddest wail a small child could make.
Stiles gave up arguing at that point, just holding on and letting her cry. If she really wanted to get loose, she could. Even at five, Laurie's werewolf strength was more than Stiles could fully control.
Soon the crying was down to sniffling and the occasional hiccup. He sat back in the chair and just rocked her.
There really was no way to explain to a five-year-old that she couldn't go to a birthday party for eight-year-old boys at a laser tag facility. Davey was her favorite among the Pack kids and anywhere Davey went, Laurie tagged along. Davey was pretty patient with his younger Pack-mate, but Stiles knew taking her to the birthday party was out of the question.
With a final sniffle, Laurie finally fell asleep in his arms. The good thing was that she was a good sleeper and didn't wake as Stiles put her down on the couch. He covered her in a blanket and kissed her forehead.
