Lydia Martin didn’t want to grow attached. After her whole thing with Jackson, it was all well and fine to sleep around. It was fun, and then it ended with Aiden. No, she didn’t love him quite like she did Jackson, but he was sweeter than he pretended to be. She didn’t like to think about how much worse it was to loose someone by death.
Then again, she also wasn’t going to join a nunnery or anything like that. It was 2012, and while there were many things Lydia wasn’t ready for, she still liked to have a good time. She could also still have any guy she wanted.
Date after date after date was the same old thing. She’d go, she’d flirt, she’d go home. She never invited them in. Sometimes she’d go on a second, or even a third, but never more. There were still plenty of guys willing to take their chances with the alluring Lydia Martin. Never fall in love, she would tell herself, and you can never be hurt again.
Genius as she was, she could still delude herself to believe such lies. It was the only way, for the moment, that she could cope.
