Pt. 1, Aiden

Always the competitor, always the strong one, always the twin to bring it just a little too far… As a child, Aiden had been widely viewed as a problem child. Ethan was the good one- he just followed in his brother’s misguided footsteps.

The bite was a gift, and it was one that Aiden had earned for the both of them. He crept out at night and ran with a local gang called ‘The Night Crawlers’. Most of their stuff was juvenile, such as tagging and petty theft. However, there was a subset within the group that called themselves a pack, and they silently orchestrated all the mischief for their own amusement.

Aiden didn’t know it at the time, but they were werewolves, and as they lived in the city, territory was what was really at stake. It was hard to maintain in a concrete jungle, but the tagging was a little like pissing on the outlying trees. Aiden’s art wasn’t up to snuff, so he started as a watcher and protector for those of their gang that tagged, and soon, he found himself standing in an abandoned warehouse with The Pack.

His brother had followed him that night, malcontented by his wayward twin Aiden’s constant absence. He watched in horror as these inhuman creatures decended, three of them holding the elder boy, the fourth taking a bite out of his side. And when it was done, Aiden stood with heavy limbs, turned, and took notice of Ethan.

“Come here, bro,” he called, smile hardly marred by his pain, “Trust me, this is good.”

Without hesitation, Ethan did as he always had, and followed.

Pt. 2, Ethan

Being a werewolf was weird. More than that, it was painful. It hurt when he woke the morning after the full moon to see his parents, ripped limb from limb, strewn about the living room. It hurt to feel his form shift from beta to alpha as Aiden destroyed The Pack. They weren’t ready to be alphas, so joining a pack composed of alphas seemed like a necessary pain. It sure beat the idea of doing this all on their own.

Ennis beat the crap out of them at Deucalion’s command to teach them control. They beat the crap out of Scott (kind of) at his own request to teach him to shift. Ethan couldn’t help but wonder if Jayne was right when he described the chain of command as that which one beats another until they realize who is in ruttin’ command, or where that chain finally ended. For him, it had always been Aiden. He’d be lost without his brother.

He is lost without his brother.

Pt. 3, End

In like a lion, out like a lamb- that was the old saying, wasn’t it? It was about weather, but Ethan was pretty sure that life was almost always compared to seasons. A time to be born, a time to die. Aiden was the strong one. He sure had the ferocity of a lion.

Gentle-

He’d always figure that he and Aiden would die together in a violent manner. At least, he’d figured it would be the case after that first full moon. Gentle was the only word that could come close to describing the way that Aiden’s life slipped through his hands.

Ethan wept.
