Author's Notes:
Ethan had glanced out the window of his bedroom when he saw it. There on the other side of the road was a fox. Ethan looked at it in confusion; he didn’t think there were any foxes roaming around Beacon Hills. He turned to call out for his brother but when he turned back, the fox was gone.
That was the first time he saw the fox, but it was not the last.
He started to see it more often at night. It would sit on the opposite side of the road and look up at the building. He would also see it when he and Aiden ran through the woods on full moons. It was normally just a flash of red fur that would let him know the fox was near.
One night he stopped in his run when he caught a glimpse of it again. When Aiden noticed he was gone, he turned to look at his brother. “Everything all right?”
“Yeah,” Ethan called out. “You go on; I’ll catch up in a minute.”
He waited until his brother’s footsteps were distant before he walked over to the small river where the fox laid on a log. Slowly, he walked over to it waiting for it run off or attack but it never moved. The only movement from the fox was when it lifted it’s head as Ethan drew closer.
Hesitantly, Ethan reached out and ran his fingers through it’s soft fur. “Who are you?” The fox didn’t answer only bumped it’s nose against Ethan’s hand before lifting it’s head again to look up at Ethan. Ethan’s stood there shocked for a moment as he looked into the fox’s eyes. They were dark, yet familiar. Ethan felt like he knew them. But how?
“Who are you?” Ethan repeated.
“Ethan!”
The fox jumped up and ran as they heard Aiden call out for him. Ethan watched it run off, not even acknowledging his twin until Aiden shook his shoulder. “What are you looking at?”
Ethan shook his head. “Nothing. It was nothing.”
A few days later he was in Danny’s room when he noticed a fox mask on the wall. He looked down at Danny who was fast asleep on his lap, a history book opened in front of them. They had been working on some school work until Ethan noticed how tired Danny was so he told him to sleep.
He ran his fingers through Danny’s hair and could have sworn he heard something similar to a purr. It was almost animal like. He looked down at the teen before looking back at the mask on the wall. There was no way Danny was the fox, Ethan would have noticed it, he would have smelled it.
His eyes landed on the Armani aftershave. ‘Unless he’s masking his scent.’ He looked back down as Danny shifted in his arms to see that the teen was awake. Danny sat up and stretched before leaning against the headboard. “How long was I out?”
“A little over an hour,” Ethan replied, smiling as Danny leaned in and started to press kisses along his neck and shoulder. It was enough to distract him for a couple of seconds before he looked at the mask again. “Danny?”
“Yeah?” Danny asked, his hand moving under Ethan’s shirt. There was a soft bite to Ethan’s neck and he almost forgot what he was going to ask. Sometimes it was hard to think when Danny was around.
“There aren’t any foxes around Beacon Hills are there?”
Danny stopped what he was doing and looked up at Ethan. “No. Why?”
“I keep seeing one,” Ethan replied. “Always at night.”
Danny shrugged. “I’ve never seen one.”
Ethan was silent for several minutes before taking a deep breath and looking up at Danny again. “Would you tell me if there was anything odd about you? Something you didn’t think anyone else would believe?”
“Would you?” Danny asked, though it presented as more of a challenge. Like Danny wanted Ethan to make the first move.
Ethan let his eyes glow blue. “Would you be afraid?” When Danny shook his head, Ethan allowed himself to transform. Danny looked at him for a moment before smiling and kissing him softly as he pulled back he started to take his shirt off.
“Well, I guess it time for me to show you what I am.”
Danny undressed and stood in the middle of the room. A soft orange glow surrounded him before he transformed into a beautiful, red fox. He walked up the Ethan and licked at his hand. Ethan smiled and ran his fingers through Danny’s fur. “I had a feeling it was you.”
