FIC: Trouble Series Spin off for Deia

Jul 07, 2009 19:09

It is terribly late, but I hope that you like this little spin off.  It does include after the youngsters had returned to their own world - I just went a little further with it, so it might not seem like that at first.

I still owe some other fics/drabbles.  I promise I have not forgotten them.

Title: Trouble Spin off

Word Count: 1350
Genre: Romance

“You’ve never even kissed someone,” James taunted.  “I have, Remus has, even Peter’s snogged someone.”

Sirius scowled down at his dinner plate.  “I’m just waiting for the right person,” he muttered, causing James to snort with laughter.

“You worried that you’re a crap kisser?” James teased.  “Perhaps you should get a bit of practice in on someone.”

“Shut up,” Sirius hissed.  He had a horrible feeling that he knew exactly where James was going with this, and he didn’t like it one little bit.

“Olivia said that Remus was a really good kisser,” James commented with a sly glance at Remus, who was sitting beside Sirius.

“Leave me out of this,” Remus warned around a mouthful of potatoes.

“Just thought you could give Sirius a few tips,” James suggested.  “Kissing lessons.”

“I’m sure he doesn’t need them,” Remus replied, while Sirius continued to glower.

“I thought you were a real friend,” James goaded.  “Look at what Sirius has done for you; what we’ve all done for you.  It’s the least you can do.”

Sirius made an attempt to kick James, but the table was too wide and James was keeping his feet well out of the way.

“I think I feel a dare coming on,” Peter said with a grin.

James grinned back at him.  “What have you got in mind?”

Peter set down his drink and smirked across the table.  “I think that we should dare Sirius to kiss Remus.”

James grinned so widely Sirius was surprised his cheeks didn’t split.  “Go for it, Peter,” he said.

Peter looked delighted as he looked at Sirius and gave him the dare.

Sirius felt ever so slightly sick.

“Do you remember that time we kissed in the Great Hall?” Sirius asked as they slipped into Professor McGonagall’s classroom.

“Yes,” Remus replied, not sure where this was going.  “Do you?”

Sirius nodded.  “It was a set up, you know?”

“What do you mean?”

“James and Peter were trying to set us up.”

“Whatever for?” Remus asked.

Sirius looked at him as though he was rather dense.  “Because they knew how I felt about you,” he finally replied.  “I think they were hoping for the Earth to move the moment our lips met, or some such crap like that.”

Remus sat down at the desk he had sat at for seven years of lessons.  He idly traced a scratch on the desk, remembering that it was made by a parrot that had got a little over-excited one Spring morning.

“You could say something, you know?” Sirius prompted.  “I know it’s a bit late for me to be saying all this, but I’m baring my bloody soul here.”

Remus watched as Sirius sat at the desk behind him, his own seat for six years of lessons.  Professor McGonagall had moved him to a seat at the front of the class for the whole of fourth year after a particularly destructive prank in one of her lessons at the start of the year.

“Remus?” Sirius pleaded.

Remus frowned.  “You said that kiss was awful.”

“So did you.  Did you think it was?”

Remus shrugged.  “I’ve had worse.”

Sirius snorted.  “Don’t go overboard with the compliments.”

Remus shook his head and smiled.  “What I remember most about it was the jeering of the students who were still in the Great Hall.  The heckling and teasing that went on for weeks.  I remember you laughing it off, but I still felt embarrassed.”

“I’m sorry,” Sirius whispered.  “I’d never planned to let you know like that.”

“Actually, you didn’t let me know at all,” Remus pointed out with a sigh.  “Our young doubles seem to have handled things a lot better than we did.”

“So I’ve seen,” Sirius replied.  “They can’t seem to keep their hands off each other, even in front of the entire school.”

“They’ve a lot more courage than we had.”

“That or they care about each other too much to bother about what everyone else thinks.”

Sirius stood up and began to pace.  “I don’t care what everyone else thinks.  I only care what you think.  Was kissing me really so bad?”

Remus shook his head slowly.

“I’d like to get a second kiss,” Sirius whispered as he came to a halt by Remus’s seat and crouched down so that they were on eye level.  “There’s no one watching here.  No one jeering and teasing.  Remus…”

Remus leaned forward to cut off Sirius’s words by pressing their lips together.

No whistling and catcalls accompanied the kiss.

No laughter and giggles echoed around the room.

There was no sound except the rapidly increasing heartbeats of two men who - in Remus’s opinion - were far too old to be hiding out and kissing in a deserted classroom.

“Better?” Sirius whispered after he had pulled back just enough to speak.

Remus nodded.

“Good enough to get a third?”

Remus replied by giving him exactly what he had asked for.

“What do you think our younger doubles are doing?” Sirius asked as Remus finished packing their meagre belongings in readiness for the Christmas holidays.

Remus shrugged.  “Probably groping in a broom cupboard if their time here is anything to go by.”

Sirius laughed loudly.  Remus smiled to himself, knowing that Sirius’s laughs were still all too rare.

“Do you think Harry will like his Christmas presents?” Sirius asked.  The changing of the subject from one to another so quickly was a very Sirius-like trait.

“I’m sure he’ll love whatever he gets from you,” Remus told him.

“From us,” Sirius corrected.

“Us,” Remus agreed, leaning down to give Sirius a quick kiss.  “Do you have everything you want to take with you?”

Sirius nodded.  “I’m not going to stay at your place in the New Year, you know?”

“You can’t exactly hide out in my quarters here for the rest of the year,” Remus pointed out.

“Padfoot can,” Sirius replied easily.  “You’ll just be bringing your pet dog back with you.”

“The staff know you’re an animagus,” Remus reminded him.  “And you still need to fill in those registration forms Dumbledore gave you.”

“I’m not going to leave you,” Sirius stated firmly.  “Not even for so much as a day.”

Remus knew that there would be no arguing with him and simply shook his head and smiled to himself.

“I mean it,” Sirius continued.  “One way or another, I’m staying with you.”

“You sure you don’t want to go out and see the world now you’re a free man?” Remus asked teasingly.

“Next summer,” Sirius declared.  “We’ll take Harry and we’ll all go travelling for the summer.  Do you think he’d like that?”

“I’m sure he would.”

“Would you like that?” Sirius whispered, unsure and hesitant, as he often was since his escape from Azkaban.

Remus assured him that he would and sat down on the bed beside Sirius, poking him in the leg to get him to make room for him.

“Do you think they’ll manage to avoid our fate?” Sirius asked, his mind back on their young doubles once more.

“Even if they don’t, our lives aren’t so bad right now,” Remus pointed out.  “Your name’s been cleared.  I have a good job.  You’ve got Harry, and we’ve got each other.”

“But we’ve lost so much…”

“Things could be much worse.”

“Since when did you become such an optimist?”

Remus stretched out beside Sirius and rested his head against his shoulder.  “I don’t know, but I’m fairly certain that it’s all your fault.”

Sirius chucked.  “It usually is, so why break with tradition?”

“One of us should go and see if Harry’s packed?” said Remus, though he made no effort to get up to do so.

Sirius turned to him and began to drop soft kisses along the edge of his jaw.

“The train won’t wait for us,” Remus whispered.

The kisses moved from the jaw to the neck.

“Harry might come looking for us.”

Sirius chuckled and retraced his path back along the jaw until he finally reached Remus’s lips and cut off anything else he had to say with what was now a very familiar kiss.
