Huh? Alchemy is a science, not magic or anything like that. And I guess it's not uncommon but there are degrees of ability involved.

We have those too. Physics, geology and chemistry are definite subgroups of alchemy, and biology becomes relevant with certain types of alchemy...

Transmuting gold, transmuting humans and opposing the military are the three forbidden laws of our society's alchemy. But the science of alchemy is meant to explain the fundamentals of everything in the world so as to derive truth from it... so it's not to say that all of the above aren't possible. Just not a good idea.
