community pimping : Whedonland
What is whedonland about?
It's an interactive community, with a sense of competition. You will be placed in one of the four teams, each corresponding to a Joss whedon show. You will compete against the other teams and will win the apocalypse by having the most points when the end of the apocalypse is announced (an apocalypse runs for three months).
What are the teams?
the actives (dollhouse) - proudly morally grey
the browncoats (firefly) - big damn heroes
the fang gang (angel) - helping the helpless
the prophecy girls (buffy) - nothing they can't face (except maybe bunnies)
Your team may have in-team only activites, send reminders about challenges, set up hint threads, and generally make sure you get to have fun and know how to get along in whedonland
What team will I be in? Can I choose?
Yes and no, the mods try to keep the team numbers even to make it a fair fight, so you will hopefully have your first choice, but you may get put into another team.
Also, you are not limited to your team when participating in a challenge. You can be an active and make Buffy icons, write a Firefly Fic, make an Angel-centric vid, and so on - and while he doesn't have his own team (he is, as someone wisely pointed out, our Switzerland) Dr Horrible is fair game for Whedonland activities :)
How do I get points?
A number of ways...you can particpate in the icon communities, complete trivia games, write fic, and other assorted tasks that will come up. Particpation gets you points, winning gets you more points, even voting on the wonderful creations members come up is worth points.
Each team will also have in-team activities and fun of their own! There may be a requirement in your team for minimum participation - usually one thing every couple of weeks will count, as simple as voting, picking an item in a luck game, or creating one icon. If you are going on hiatus or are having other issues though, just let your team leader know - they're really very reasonable people :)
