Return of the Fitness Bet

Jul 16, 2012 06:29

Some time ago, gaaneden share with us the concept of "Fitness Bets". These bets were activity goal focused, rather than target weight focus. This makes sense to me as being far healthier. Ideally, if I'm being more active and hitting my activity goals, the weight loss will follow and be a happy side effect. This is total win if you ask me.

Over the next 6 months, until January 15th, I need to do the following:
  • Ride the exercise bike for at least 30 minutes each day. At least 3 times a week. (5 times a week is a weekly stretch goal.)
  • I must take the stairs at work at least 2 times a day for 3 days a week. (At least 4 times a day, 5 days a week is a weekly stretch goal.)

Each week I make my goal I put $5 into a savings account to by something I wouldn't normally allow myself because of the cost. Every week I meet both of my stretch goals, I will put $20 into the fund. My fund will be to buy some latex clothing.

Just having the reward isn't enough, because my brain is tricksy, it can say, "Oh well, I didn't need it anyway." Since we can't be having any of that. There is a penalty if I don't hit the minimum requirement: I will learn to crochet and make a pair of pot holders. (Don't have something like 20 billion pot holders already?! Yuck!) Don't get me wrong, I like being a crafty kind of gal, but crocheting has never appealed to me.

Okay, so we have reward and the penalty. Sometimes though, life legitimately gets in the way (The punk.) and we're not able to make the goals for what ever reason. Six months is 26 weeks and I will give myself 5 free weeks in case I need them.

If you want to follow along with the daily stats, I'll be posting them to the Weight Loss filter here on LiveJournal.

I'll post here again at the end of the 6 months and let you know what I'm buying or what colors I'm using. ;)
