Taught a sailing class in moderate gale conditions this evening. Everyone did really well. Home now. Mostly dry and almost warm.
Met with a volunteer coordinator for Israel volunteer programs. Meeting was very productive and left me full of hope that my time in Israel will be spent doing something wonderful.
One of my housemates taped to my door a newsprint ad for lumberjack suspenders.
Gaza update:
Israel's relationship with Turkey is badly damaged from this war. This could become especially terrible considering that a few Hezbollah rockets rained down on southern Northern Israel today. If the conflict spreads to the north, things could get very bad.
It looks like a ceasefire will be agreed upon sooner rather than later. The significance of this has yet to be determined, but it sounds like Mubarak had pretty substantial leverage in dealing with Hamas. I am generally wary of "internationalizing" any sort of border or territory, but the conditions might actually be right to have a multilateral force take over securing the philadelphi corridor (Gaza's smuggling tunnel on the Sinai).
It seems weird to say that I am generally against internationalizing a border. It also seems weird to come out against multilateral forces. My reasoning is sound, I assure you. It has to do with legitimate power at the micro and macro level. I will probably write some big missive about this topic sometime soon, but for now I am too tired and damp and cold.
