Gaza III, and minty products

Jan 05, 2009 22:58

Not much news to report as far as Gaza is concerned. Apparently Mubarak is asking Europe (namely France) to keep the pressure off of Israel for now. He really does not want Hamas to come back to power and start causing mischief in Egypt.

Meanwhile Turkey is still really upset and is outdoing even the Syrians in their condemnations of Israel. This might be to quell civil unrest. It might also be to prevent Hezbollah from inciting violence on the Turkish border with Syria or Lebanon. There could also be a mysterious motive that has nothing to do with any of this. Public gestures really mean little in the Middle East; The game is in quiet diplomacy. It is entirely possible that Turkey is more supportive than they are letting on, and the public outcry is to veil the private collaboration. It sounds weird, but much stranger things have happened.

On a totally unrelated note, I have a hard time imagining better consumer products than Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap, Tom's of Maine spearmint toothpaste, and Gold Bond. I am not sure if these products are really that great, or if I just have a particular attachment to my grooming and to the minty products thereof.
