Whew! What a weekend!

I managed to get Saturday off so we could play the Mayor's cup show. I got a good night of sleep and got up early to go pack things up. Trevor, on the other hand, went to Higher Ground to watch Immortal Technique and got home at 4:00am. Three and a half hours of sleep later, we're getting ready to go, coffee stampeding through our arteries.

After finally finding the entrance to the parking lot, we watched Yo! Adrian play a killer set list. So killer that Justin broke three strings. We chilled out and watched the other bands until we had to play. It was 1:15 and the sun was causing our very souls to boil. It was a bit of a rocky set, we flubbed up some parts, and I had to dumb down some of my fills (sweaty hands and exhaustion), but it was a lot of fun. I guess we sounded pretty good, the guys from Dick's got to mic my entire set, so the mix should have been great.

We chilled out afterwards, I got a good sunburn on my neck, and then we met up with Laura to go see Boris and Torche in Montreal. The show was killer. All I wanted to buy was the new Smile vinyl! I was in line when they let people in, and by the time we got up there, the line at their merch table was sickening! I saw people walking away with practically discographies! Multiple people had two copies of the japanese Smile vinyl (EXPENSIVE). I could give them the benefit of the doubt and think they were getting them for friends, but it seems unlikely in this ebay day and age. Basically everything vinyl except for Altar was "sold out." All I wanted was a regular ol' version of Smile.

I then decided on the Torche picture disc, but it was $30, so I spent my only $20 on cheap-o beer. Job well done. It was an amazing show, Boris manages to put a strange translation on American Rock 'n' Roll. The drummer is %100 glam with his unbuttoned silk shirt, gloves, and head-set mic, "woooo"-ing all the time, while battering his clear orange drums. They use ridiculous/amazing Sunn and Orange gear as homage to the '70s, and they fucking fogged the hell out of that place. My lungs were very confused.

I've only heard some things they've done with Merzbow, and Altar. I always figured they were another doom/drone band like Sunn O))), but after watching them play I got a different perspective on them for sure. I'd never really had much of an urge to listen to them much, but I got Smile online yesterday, and I think I'm going to enjoy it a lot. It'll never compare to the gut-rumbling live sound, though.

Got home around 3:00am, slept until about 11, and it was a pretty good day. It rained and we just chilled out. I picked up the Hellboy "Conquerer Worm" TP yesterday and enjoyed reading that. Why didn't I buy volume 1, you ask? Because I am crazy like that! Also, Paul told me that they weren't necessarily in order, and I've already read the first couple. It's kind of neat to read something that they were referencing in this volume. Kind of like Memento! Today is work, booo, but it's nice out, so I think a bike ride is in order. I might post some pictures from the Boris show, but here's a video I took. It's 35 seconds of the Drummer, Atsuo, crowdsurfing. Fucking rockstars.
