Tonight, I saw The Black Dahlia with Andrew, Rob, Megan and Laura. It was quite good. I usually don't like Josh Hartnett, but he actually did a pretty good job. The movie has some scenes that are not for the squeamish, so be forewarned if you decide to go see it.
Before the movie, I met up with Rob at his work(because he literally works across the street from my building) so I wouldn't have to walk to the mall by myself. We walked to his place and I had a beer (Big Rock Black Amber). Then we walked to the mall, and Andrew and Megan were already there when we got there. Laura called as we were in line at the concessions stand(we weren't sure if she was going to make it to the movie) and she joined us. After the movie, Laura had to leave because she hd to work in the morning, so the rest of us went to a restaurant for some post-show food and drink. I had another beer, this time from another local brewery called Alley Kat. This beer was called Aprikat and it was apricot-flavoured, and quite good. Edmonton has some great beers.
Oh, and I learned that a steak sandwich in Canada is not the same thing as a steak sandwich in the US. A steak sandwich in the US is more like a Philly cheesesteak. Up here, it's a steak with a thick piece of toast on the side.
For our next movie night, we're going to get drunk and see Jackass: Part Two. Also, in October, we're probably going to this part of the Edmonton Film Festival:
Edge of Night… An entire evening of low-budget, independent films that all contain a sprinkle of comedy, a dash of sci-fi, and a whole lotta eye-poppin’ action! For just $15 you get 5 feature-length movies back-to-back starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, October 6th at Garneau Theatre.
5 movies for 15 bucks is an awesome deal. And even if the movies are terrible, it'll still be awesome because we can make fun of them MST3K-style.
