Cardin approached his usual prey Velvet,
Y'know, it bothers me a little how casually they looked on Velvet being bullied in canon, but I can accept it as all of them subscribe to the "this is something you have to do yourself" mentality to varying degrees. Here it's much worse, because according to Boy, Faunus are regularly beaten just for being Faunus. That's not the type of thing any of these characters would let stand.
Boy, in particular, having (allegedly) suffered this terrible abuse, really comes across as the selfish twat he is. It doesn't matter that Velvet is being bullied, it only mattered when he was the victim.

I can't take it anymore! How can you be going out with an animal like him!?
As flat as Cardin is, ProAJ can still make him OOC. Cardin never showed any interest in Blake (or any of the girls, for that matter), so why does he suddenly care?

Blake took off her bow.
Again, Velvet being physically picked on. Meh. But a mild slur against Boy, that requires bold action!

Going through classes the next day showed that if anyone actually had a problem with Faunus, only Cardin and his team ever showed it.
Given that they already know at least two Faunus who don't hide, this shouldn't exactly be news to them.
And again, Boy's insistence at how terrible it is to be a Faunus clashes with what we see.

Blake looked at him and saw this and couldn't stand the sight of him crying and hugged him back as much as she could.
So, not only is she willing to reveal her Faunus heritage for her man's sake, she's also willing to ease off on the White Fang, just to keep him from crying. Such a strong woman, folks.

"Thank you, we couldn't have done that without you." Ruby said quietly.
Look, it's bad enough that Boy will never help them accomplish anything they couldn't do on their own, but lines like this only draw attention to it.
Also, this is Ruby, the optimist. Thinking they could never have gotten through to Blake without Boy's help is tantamount to giving up on her.

Doesn't help that it's ballroom dancing.
Yeah, because that was totally ballroom moves JNPR was doing to "Shine."

We don't want to go on a date! We are fine hanging out the way we do!
Y'know, a date is really any activity you do to spend time with your significant other. If you're not doing any activities like that, you're not dating!

It was like a cartoon character walking on air then realizing they can't walk on air.
Funny how visual gags don't work well in prose.
Also, Ruby wasn't doing it the "wrong way". Both of them were leaning at an impossible angle. The only reason Yang didn't fall down is because she didn't notice.

Edit:
One more thing that occurred to me. The entire thing with Yang insisting that Blake go to the dance falls apart.
In canon, Blake had been letting this eat at her for weeks. She wasn't sleeping well, and had little attention span for anything. There was significant reason to be worried. The dance was less of a goal and more of a metric.
Here... she only started thinking about this like a week ago, and she's still fawning over Boy, so I don't see why Yang would be terribly worried about her. It comes across less of "You need to take a break from all this worrying" and more "I don't care that you're an introvert."
