Today was... an odd day. A huge mix of strange feelings right from the beginning.
Anyway, I called in to work today on account of the weather. I felt guilty about because I could really use the money (and have been getting less hours lately anyway) and for screwing over the manager I like the most-- it's not that we would be busy today, but that it takes several people to even get the store ready to open, and I wasn't there to do it.
Also today: After being given a huge runaround, I have an audition with the Illinois Theatre Association. It's been huge hassle to get one, but now that I do, I feel really-- awkward? Anxious? I don't know what. Theatre has never made me nervous before. I'm just not sure what to expect. Every audition I've been to has been different. The two big regional auditions I went to last year I managed to more or less fail at. I know where I want to be and what I want to do, but it's not a question of that-- it's a question of what theatre would be willing to hire me and for what.
Also, I hate choosing audition monologues. I would much, much rather do cold readings. For most people it seems to be the other way around. I've read a lot of advice on auditioning, and the consensus seems to be that an actor should have between 8 and 20 monologues on hand that they can just spout off at any moment. I don't have that-- because I've never had to before. It's nerve wracking because I think too hard and question my choices too much but-- when you have 90 seconds to show everything that you're capable of before the director yells "next!", it's... difficult.
Other news:
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is entertaining so far. I was afraid that it couldn't sustain itself for very long before it got stale and boring, but it's held out. I wonder though if I might find it funnier if I was more intimately familiar with the original text, but probably not-- the "zombification" of the story is done pretty well.
It's been a while now, but I saw Avatar. Was entertaining and visually stunning. People called it "Dances With Wolves in Space" but it's more the bastard child of Dances With Wolves and Fern Gully... in Space.
