The Economy

My mom called me yesterday crying. Her and five other colleagues were fired. I'm financially independent now, so it's not that bad for me, but I just feel bad for her. She will be getting unemployment and is already looking for new opportunities, so she won't be homeless.
But she loved that job at the United Way. She settled for less pay because it meant that much to her. It was her life.
And I just thought that all this crap would never affect my family. I never thought that a philanthropic organization would ever sink in this economic slump we are in. Apparently I was wrong. Apparently, instead of people cutting back on vacations and really nice cars and boats, they are cutting back on their donations to non-profit organizations. I know that seems to be an immature statement, but honestly, the upper strata of the social ladder are usually the main donations they get. Thanks to their selfishness, my mom has lost part of her meaning in life.
