Summary : When Key (a blonde, British, sweet but snarky fifteen year old) and Jonghyun (a blonde, Korean slash American overly excited twenty-one year old) have both the bitch level of +1000, nothing ends up right.
(so basically this story is about a snowboarding boot camp. wouldn't it be super hot if Jonghyun would snowboard ? lol.
snowboarding!jongkey ahead of you, guys.)
Jonghyun watched out of the corner of his eye how Key did an ollie, pushing with his heel on the back of his board so that the tip raised and pushing on the front directly after, popping the board in the air. It was one of the basic tricks, so he wasn't particularly impressed but still had the strong urge to give him a thumbs up.
To be completely honest, he thought that the boy wasn't even going to be able to balance himself on a board. He rather looked like someone who'd prefer skiing. Apparently he was wrong, because this kid got some skills. That got confirmed when Jonghyun's eyes followed how Key slid down the slope and right at the end of the incline managed to do a three-sixty turn as if it was one of the easiest things in the world.
Jonghyun bit his lip and narrowed his eyes, the sentence 'don't judge a book by its cover' wandering through his head.
There was loud laughter behind him and some giggles from girls who were excitedly applauding and whispering at each other about how cool the blonde boy was.
Well, he kind of had to agree though. Key was pretty cool.
He grinned, turning around to have some fun himself and climbed up the slope to the top.
"You go Jonghyun !" He heard one of the kids snicker, followed by laughter and cheers. He chuckled, putting on his helmet and attaching his boots to his board before peering down to see if someone was in the way.
He saw Key sitting in the snow somewhere in the distance with two other boys, probably his roommates, and smiled a little.
The kids behind him counted from one to three and he pushed himself off at 'Go !', the loud laughing of the members of group B dying down as he slid down the slope.
He leaned to his right as soon as he saw someone blocking his way, going around them in a little bow and popping his board in the air like Key had previously done.
His eyes were focused on the snow in front of him, not noticing how the three boys who were coming closer and closer with every inch he slid down the incline were staring at him.
He slightly crouched down, grabbing the back of the board and taking a sharp turn followed by a three sixty. He smiled to himself when he succesfully pushed down on the back of the board and turned it horizontal so that he would come to a halt.
The kids who were still on top of the slope were jumping up and down and waving at him, but he couldn't hear them. He just waved back, broad smile on his face and turning around to climb back up.
"Wow, Jonghyun that was so cool !" came a sudden voice. He saw Kenneth and David running up to him, leaving Key behind in the snow who let out an exaggerated sigh before hoisting himself up as well.
"Ah, thanks," The monitor said coyly, smiling sheepishly at the two. He pulled his helmet off and held it in his right hand, detaching his boots from his board and holding it in the other one. He flipped his blonde bangs to the side in that way all the girls would melt through the snow. (and some of them actually did)
Key joined them, blonde hair swept to the side and helmet placed steadily under his arm. He didn't say anything and just looked up at the older male with big, green eyes. Jonghyun gulped, quickly looking away before drowning in them.
"Have you guys tried already ?" He asked the two others, forcing a smile on his face because he could still feel the blatant, penetrating stare of the younger on his face.
David shook his head, "We're going to right now," He admitted, looking up at the other kids who were sliding down the slopes and playing around in the snow.
Jonhyun nodded, jerking his head to the ski-lits as if to say they had to hurry up before it would get dark and they'd have to go back to the hostel.
Kenneth grinned, picking up his board and pulling David with him to the row of people who were waiting in line at the ski-lifts, leaving Key behind with their monitor.
"Having fun, princess ?" Jonghyun said, grin slipping back on his face at which the younger boy had to grimace.
"Had," He deadpanned, ruffling his blonde hair and leaving it messy on his head.
Jonghyun's face fell, giving the smaller boy an emotionless stare before brushing past him. He could hear Key chuckle somewhere in the distance as he made his way to the ski-lifts to join the other two boys.
"You coming with us, Jonghyun ?" Kenneth asked excitedly, holding the back of David's jacket so that he wouldn't lose track of him.
The monitor forced a smile, annoyed to no end by the blonde kid who seemed to be able to ruin his entire day with his witty remarks. "Yeah,"
"Isn't Key coming ?" David suddenly asked with raised eyebrows when he saw the British boy still standing alone in the snow.
Jonghyun turned around and shrugged, not interested whether or not Key was going to join them because he was fed up with him and his bitchy attitude.
Kenneth eyed him suspiciously, sucking up his bottom lip in thought, "You don't like him, do you ?" He asked carefully, making the monitor's head shoot up in surprise.
He looked confused for a second before letting out a little sigh, turning back around to watch how Key sat back down in the snow, looking at the other kids play. He faked a smile when he turned back to Kenneth, "What are you talking about ? Key's great," He had to put much effort in forming the last two words, almost too much and he almost even chocked on them.
Kenneth noticed and grinned, "I can see you don't like him, but I understand, so no worries," He reassured the older male, eyes drifting up to watch his friend sitting all by himself. It was quite a pathetic sight but it seemed that Key could care less. He was making little snowballs and throwing them away aimlessly, eyeing the others who were sliding down the slopes.
Jonghyun was surprised, he surely did not expect that. He cleared his throat before changing his position against the railing he was leaning against, "What do you mean 'I understand' ?" He asked curiously. Were they enemies before they became buddies ? Or BF's ? They were more than 'only friends' though, that much was clear.
Kenneth just shrugged, "I know he can be a bitch,"
David snickered, nodding his head in agreement and Jonghyun questioned himself how the hell these two boys were able to keep up with the British kid. Key was more than only a bitch, he was a mischievous, snarky little devil.
"But he can be really sweet, too," The boy continued, "and besides, how can you ever get angry at such a cute face," He quickly added with a low chuckle.
David gave him a playful push, "You sound fucking gay," He laughed, eyes turning into little half moons.
Kenneth rolled his eyes at him, "But it's true,"
David nodded his head, turning around so that he was facing both their monitor and his friend, "You need to have a lot of patience with him, and once you have that, Key is the coolest kid you'll ever meet,"
Jonghyun couldn't help but admire the two kids, that was what real friendship is about. You just have to learn to deal with the other's flaws.
He smiled a little, an unconcious smile he didn't know appeared on his lips.
"How long have you been friends ?" He asked, that same, small smile still gracing his handsome features. He was growing fond of these two.
They looked at each other for a second, eyebrows knitted together in thought before Kenneth spoke up, "Well, he moved from England to America when he was ten so ... five years, I suppose,"
David nodded in agreement, the row of people in front of them growing smaller and smaller until it was their turn.
They all put back on their helmets when the guy who organised everything there told them to take the next lift.
They attached one boot to their snowboard so that they could control where they were going to with the other, waiting for the lift to approach them.
In the meantime Key was watching them out of the corner of his eye, biting his lip in annoyance. He harshly threw the snowball he had made away, letting himself fall into the snow. It was cold against his back but he didn't care, he was tired and exhausted and simply annoyed. Stupid Jonghyun.
He stayed there for a couple of minutes with his eyes closed, enjoying the sun beams that shone on his face. His neglected helmet was lying carelessly somewhere next to his body and his board at his feet.
The warmth of the sun suddenly disappeared when a shadow blocked the sunrays and his eyes shot open, only to be met with someone towering above him like a sky scraper.
"Hey, get up, you'll catch a cold," It was their other monitor, the one with the short brown hair. Key scrambled to his feet, flashing Jeremy a quickl smile and ruffling the snow out of his blonde locks.
"Don't tell me you're bored," The monitor said in a playful manner, picking up the other's board and handing it over.
Key shook his head with a cute smile, "No, just a little tired," He explained sweetly and Jeremy had to chuckle at how cute he sounded, not getting why his co-worker had called him 'an annoying fuck'.
He would've squealed and hugged him to death if he was a girl, he thought, big green eyes looking up at him.
"Ah, make sure you rest well tonight, okay ?" He smiled, ruffling the younger boy's hair and when he got a nod in return, turning back around to go to his own group.
He saw David and Kenneth sliding down the slope, it seemed that they were having a great time and he smiled brightly, waiting for them to come to a halt so that the three of them could go to the ski-lifts.
He grabbed his helmet and jumped up and down whilst waving excitedly at his two friends who began approaching him.
"I wanna go on the ski-lifts, too," He grinned and Kenneth nodded, pulling off his helmest and slinging an arm around the smaller boy's neck.
Jonghyun watched them from where he was crouched down in front of a girl who had problems detaching her boots from her board, the corner of his lips slightly curling upwards because no matter how much of an obnoxious little demon Key was, he loved how sweet and cool he was around his friends.
And David and Kenneth were seriously the greatest friends he had ever come across, not everybody can deal with an attitude like Key's and still consider them their best friend. It was simply heartwarming.
The girl thanked him once he succeeded in disconnecting her last boot from her board and walked away. Jonghyun stood back up and stretched his limbs, going to the small wooden house where they could drink and eat or just rest out.
He decided to just sit on one of the benches outside while keeping an eye on the kids, ordering a hot chocolate.
He put his helmet next to him on the bench and his board against a little wall that encircled the restaurant, leaning his head on the palm of his hand and observing Jeremy and Tess who were having a conversation nearby the ski-lifts.
He grinned to himself, those two had always been good friends. Maybe there was beginning to bloom someting between them. They were laughing and Jeremy was obviously flirting with her, with the way he was grinning when Tess had to lean on him when she toppled over in laughter.
He averted his eyes a little and spotted Kenneth, David and another girl, they were talking to each other and Key was sitting in the middle in the snow, making little snowballs like he had previous done and throwing them away in a purposeless direction.
The girl was also holding snow in her hands and accidentally dropped it down on the blonde's head when David had said something funny. Key shot up in surprise because of the sudden cold and shrieked, pulling up his shoulders and arching his back.
Jonghyun chuckled, watching how Kenneth crouched down next to him and began ruffling the snow out of his blonde locks, pinching his cheek afterwards. Key glared at him and jumped to his feet, shrugging off his jacket and sweater.
The girl gave him a sheepish smile and Jonghyun saw how Key had the urge to snap at her but didn't, muttering something like "It's okay," as his face contorted in displeasure when the snow went deeper down his clothes.
Jonghyun smiled, secretly finding the younger boy, despite his horrible attitude, kind of cute. But he would never admit that aloud though. Nobody needed to know, he didn't even know why he was even thinking about if the younger boy was cute or not, like hell he could care. His cuteness would never make up for his disobedience and bitchy personality.
His eyes grew slightly bigger when he noticed Kenneth staring at him. He didn't want to come over as a creep, it didn't even occur to him that he had been all this time staring at the British kid.
He let out an inaudible sigh when the boy began frantically waving at him with a bright smile, making it clear that he wasn't suspicious of Jonghyun's lenghty staring at his friend.
The monitor hesitantly waved back at him, not missing the judging look he received from Key who noticed them interacting. He decided to ignore it, after all, he was still mad at the kid for being such a bitch to him previously. He knew he was being immature, and that he shouldn't let a fifteen year old control his temper like that but he simply couldn't help it.
He was annoyed to no end by what Key had said back then, he could care less if he was twenty-one and the other just a teenager, it doesn't change the fact that words can still hurt.
"Hey-yo Jonghyun-o," came a sudden cheery voice and the blonde male looked up. Jeremy and Tess were approaching his table and sat down on the opposite bench. He spared the younger boy one last glance and noticed that he was still staring at him. Feeling slightly uncomfortable under his gaze, he gave him his back and smiled at his co-workers, "Hey,"
A little grin appeared on Jeremy's lips when he noticed Jonghyun had been watching the younger boy. The blonde male decided to ignore it and averted his eyes to his lap, fumbling with his fingers.
He felt nervous and he didn't know why, was it because his friend noticed ? Was it because he could still feel two bright green eyes boring holes in his back ?
Tess raised her eyebrows, "Hey, what's up with you ?" She asked, slightly concerned. There was a visible frown on her forehead, Jonghyun noticed when he looked up to meet her worried gaze.
He faked a smile at her, as if nothing was wrong whilst deep inside, it seemed that everything was wrong. It was like puberty all over again.
"What do you mean ? I'm fine," He reassured her and tried to ignore the still obvious smirk of Jeremy which was slowly but surely annoying the hell out of him. Not as annoying as the pair of eyes that seemed to pierce right through him, though.
Just then the waiter came with his hot chocolate and Jonghyun internally sighed in relief. "Thanks," He smiled up at him, eyes going into little crescent moons.
"Can I have green tea, please ? No sugar," Tess asked the boy who was around the same age of them. The waiter nodded and expectantly looked at Jeremy who kindly shook his head as if saying he didn't need anything.
"So Jonghyun," Jeremy began, folding his arms on the surface of the table. The blonde monitor was sipping his hot chocolate carefully as to not burn his tongue, and looked up at him over the rim of his mug.
"I spoke to that kid of your group an hour ago, and he seems sweet," He said casually, smiling mischievously at the other.
Tess seemed a little confused but didn't intervene, observing how two other monitors were handling her group A.
Jonghyun just shrugged, putting down his mug and trying to look anywhere but Jeremy, he was just mocking him.
It was silent for a couple of seconds with Jeremy waiting for the other to respond, but Jonghyun wasn't planning to.
"Hey uhm, can I bring Key to the hostel real quick because his t-shirt is all wet and I don't want him to catch a cold," Someone suddenly asked and the three monitors looked up at Kenneth who was standing at their table.
Jeremy blinked a couple of times and cleared his throat, "Uhm, one of us will go with him,"
Jonghyun stayed silent and Tess noticed but didn't say anything because he had already assured her that everything was fine.
Key was standing with their back at them, his t-shirt dampened because of the melted snow and plastered to his back.
"Jonghyun, he's from your group, can you bring him ?" Jeremy asked and the blonde male didn't miss the mischievous sparke that flashed through his eyes when he looked up in confusion.
"I-uhm, yeah, sure," He said, standing up and following Kenneth to the younger boy who desperately tried to detach his shirt from his back. David was all the while laughing at him, holding his sweater and jacket. "You're such a loser," He joked and Key groaned in annoyance, "David, stop it," He whined.
"Let's get you changed," Jonghyun said and Key turned around in one swift movement at hearing his voice, eyebrows raised. The older boy tried to ignore the way the blonde stared at him as if he was an alien and tried to put aside his immature feelings that came whenever he looked at Key. There was a lump in his throat and he tried to swallow it, he wasn't going to let a little teenage boy have such an impact on him.
Was he really that affected by one silly thing Key had said ? He thought, or was it because he was a bitch to him all the freaking time. He groaned.
He grabbed the younger boy's wrist and pulled him with him in the direction of the hostel. "Kenneth, come," The blonde said desperately as he was dragged away from them but Jonghyun shook his head at him as if saying he had to stay there.
Kenneth shot his friend an apologetic smile and gave him a small wave at which the smaller boy just had to huff.
"You're hurting me," He whined when the grip on his wrist tightened. Jonghyun quickly let go and muttered an apology, walking ahead of him with his hands in his pockets.
"Hey, not so fast !" He then complained and Jonghyun rolled his eyes, reducing his speed. He felt a small hand clutching the sleeve of his jacket, slightly pulling at it.
The grin that slipped onto his face was inevitable.
He suddenly felt like he was the one in charge again. Maybe that was why he was so down all of a sudden. He didn't like the way a younger boy could control him, he was older for christ's sake ! He wasn't just going to let a snarky little devil make him feel down because of one silly thing he had said. No reversed roles, Jonghyun was in charge. Not this kid.
"Aw, can't the princess keep up with me ?" He teased, still grinning from ear to ear.
The groan that slipped past the other's lips was like music to his ears.
"Should I carry you ?" He decided to provoke him a little bit more, the small hand that had clutched his sleeve disappearing.
"Will you shut it ?" Key said in annoyance, crossing his arms over his chest and the monitor noticed the goosebumps that were started to form on his skin.
Not to mention that with the way his shirt was practically plastered to his thin frame, he could see him trembling.
There was a sudden knack of concern that went through his body at seeing him like that. He knew that with his stubborn personality he would never admit that he was cold and needed something warm to put on.
He shrugged off his own jacket and draped his sweater over the younger boy's shoulder, since his jacket and sweater were dampened by the snow.
Key was hesitant at first, his muscles tensing up at the sudden warmth and when the goosebumps started to diminish, burrying his face further in the warm sweater of the older boy.
"Thanks," He muttered softly and Jonghyun grinned in victory.
"You're welcome, dollface,"
--
kay, did you like it ?
Jonghyun's having some serious mixed feelings because of Key. LOL.
I personally like writing about kenneth and david ...
oh by the way, I don't know if you've noticed in the previous chapter but when I use British slang, I add a link that refers to the meaning of the word .... there aren't any in this chapter though.
also, I hope it isn't too obvious that English isn't my native language so I am sorry for spelling and/or grammar mistakes.
ok bye. tell me what you think of this chapter :) x
