Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a courageous young German pastor who was executed by the Nazis in 1945 for his part
in the “officers’ plot” to assassinate Adolf Hitler and was himself assassinated by the Nazis in WWII.

and, more or less consciously, give up establishing an autonomous position toward the emerging circumstances.
