Ballpoint pen on mat board
9x12 inches
This is a portrait drawing of the daughter of one of my managers from work.
Drawing children is maybe the most terrifying mode of portraiture to me, because
a)you're dealing with a physical appearance which is not as defined as an adult's
b)you're dealing with parents who, being parents, have an acute knowledge of their children's appearance and as such can be very hard to please (though this is not the case with this drawing)
This was pretty successful if I may say so myself. The work on the face was a definite exercise in letting suggestion do more of the work than actual definition via marks.
