Leonard nods a little as Jim speaks, "That's right Jo, Jim and I will never be gone for very long, and you'll never be along, like Jim said, you are going to have lots of aunts and uncles who will be around to take care of you and friends to play with if we have to go. But we are going to try and work it out so we both don't have to go at the same ( Read more... )

As soon as his shift is over, Jim heads back to their quarters and contacts the Talaxians.

They are absolutely thrilled that the 'Life Water' succeeded. Its something that they give the gay males in their society who wish to have children of their own. Over the course of a couple of days, they tell Jim, his body grew it's own uterus that would function not unlike the implant he'd tried to get before. They also told him that it would not be viable for more than one pregnancy, since his body wasn't made to handle it and if he wanted to do it again after this baby was born, he'd have to get another dosage of the water. But, they said, he wouldn't have to worry about any special complications because of his gender. Any complications would be complications that could easily affect any female, but, just like with a female, if Jim stayed healthy and careful, he should be fine.

Jim would always blame the hormones for his tearful and repeated thank you, and as he cleaned up and left to pick Jo up from school, he still felt as if he'd never be able to thank them enough.

He still sent in a request to Starfleet to furnish them with farming supplies. Just because.

Leonard finishes his shift and heads to pick up Jo. Happy it was a peaceful day knowing they are a rare thing aboard The Enterprise.

"Popsicle we are home." Jo says skipping into their quarters.

"Hey Jim, how are you feeling?" He asks coming in and giving Jim a brief kiss.

"I'm great." Jim grins and plants a big wet one on his husband. Jo just giggles and carries her things into her room.

"So I talked to the Talaxians." Jim says.

"And what did they say?" He smiles wrapping his arms around Jim's waist.

"That the water they gave me was something the give the males on their planet all the time. I basically grew my own implant. But its only viable for this pregnancy." He tells him. "They said that I'll basically progress just like a woman will, and that I'm not at risk for complications because of my gender. They did say to keep close to a medical professional towards the end though, because I'll go into labor like a woman, but won't be able to give birth..."

"That's good Jim..." He says kissing him again. "But I'd still feel better if around month five we move earth side Just to be on safe side." He smiles a little a hand moving to Jim's stomach.

"When would we come back?" Jim asks. Not because he would miss the ship-and he would-but because it was one thing for Bones, maybe to raise a child in Georgia with his family.

But this was Jim's family, here. Yes, Jo and Bones and this new baby would be first but...what about Uhura, his big sister? Or Spock, his best friend? His sweet little brother Chekov or his asshole, awesome, funny brother Sulu? There wasn't a tighter support system anywhere in the universe than on that ship, and Jim wanted his-their baby to be apart of that from as early on as possible.

"I don't know Jim. We could take time just to be the four of us for awhile, get a place in San Francisco and teach at the academy for a bit, at lest until the babies a little older." He says still holding Jim close. "I know these people are your family Jim, our family Jim, but when the baby comes the first year or two should be someplace more stable then a starship where we wont need daycare, where we wont be on call 24 hours a day for anything other then our children."

"Year?" Jim practically chokes. Holy shit, that's a long time...

"I-..." But he doesn't want to fight again, not like before. And this baby is the most important thing in the world to him...but what if Starfleet decides to take the Enterprise when Jim requests a year long leave of absence? What if something happens to his crew? Something that he could have prevented.

"Bones, a year is a really long time."

"I know darlin', I know you love The Enterprise Jim, but think of the stuff you'll be able to experience not being on board."

"Bones-..." Jim glanced around, then back up at his husband.

"Bones, they'll take her. They didn't want me to have her in the first place and if I leave for a year it's the perfect fucking opportunity-..." Goddamn hormones...don't cry, Jim.

Leonard hugs Jim tightly. "Think about Jo, and whatever this little guy is gonna be. You want us to be working or under red alert when he takes his or her first steps, or words?" He says softly "Want some daycare worker to be the first to see those things."

"No..." Jim shakes his head. "No but-...but after that, what do we do? After he's walking and talking, what do we-...what do I do if my ship is gone?"

"If your ship is gone, which I doubt it will be, we go on teaching raising and loving our kids, maybe add another." He says running a hand up and down Jim's back "We be a family."

And Jim doesn't say anything more. Doesn't let on to the fact that having to live on Earth, losing his ship scares the shit out of him. And as much as he wants this baby, wants a life with Bones and Joanna...

"I'm tired..." He says instead, pulling back slowly. And he's not lying. He suddenly is.

"Alright Darlin', go lay down, I'll get dinner going. What do you want?" Bones says softly. "We're going to finish talking about this later though." He says "It's important."
