Who watches MTV? Everyone. Who gets to hear snippets of None Shall Pass tracks? Everyone. Who finds out that Aesop is more amazing than Yung Joc and Trick Daddy? Everyone. Its a promotional scam. Not only is he making money off of the commercials, but he's getting exposure. And he didn't do anything that he wouldn't do on some underground radio station either, he was Aesop being Aesop. He didn't sell out. I'm proud of my nigga.

it's just the stigma, man

True. I mean, I have to admit that when Seven's Travel's was all over MTV2 I was pissed, but that whole cd and phase of Atmosphere's carreer was a giant let down. Like, they didn't 'sell out' either, they just didn't sound the same. And they started showing up on mtv and the radio and shit, so, it was like "hey, these guys changed their sound and image so they could get a little shine." But Aesop is a whole different story. He hasn't changed shit. I can say that confidently. I mean, he's changed since Appleseed, but that's more of a growing up thing. His lyrics and content are the same, his production and beats are the same, his appearance is the same. He's still indie hiphop at it's finest, he's just getting exposure. It doesn't matter if he gets ten thousand new fans... because he's still Aesop Rock and he deserves the profit and he deserves to get his word across, you know? Haha. Sorry I keep going on gigantic tangents. Its just like... this weeks topic of discussion is Aesop Rock becoming a shitbag sellout media hungry drone and ( ... )

Well Trying to Find a Balance and Always Coming Back Home to You are really good tracks from that record. But you know I agree that Aesop's the same, but the stigma is there, and I hate little MTV fucks who think they're the fucking greatest when the find out about Aesop - like when Modest Mouse (who I don't think you care about, haha) released Good News For People Who Love Bad News and everyone was like "OMG THIS CD ROX," but they didn't even realized they had put out a bunch of records before that? It's jus tlike something's missing, and the amazing material which existed prior to this media event is lost. And I hate that. And if Brother Ali ever got featured on MTV, which I doubt he will, I would be upset because I've met him, and he probably will never lose his integrity, but the gritty, raw emotion which he puts forth could be watered down due the pangs of celebrity. And, people wouldn't give a fuck about Shadows on the Sun, and that would just drive me insane. I guess I just never thought I'd be seeing Aesop's face on MTV. It' ( ... )

I think that Brother Ali will end up on MTV eventually. But Forrest Whittaker and Dorian will never matter to anyone. Just like Scapegoat and Gods Bathroom Floor don't matter and neither do Bent Life, Shere Khan and DayLight. But its like, How could Aesop not end up on MTV? I thought his career was over the second I heard Bazooka Tooth. That was like his version of Seven's Travel's, it seemed too radio friendly. But then he dropped Fast Cars and it was fifty fifty. He still had that jiggy little attitude from Bazooka Tooth, but he had a lot more depth. None Shall Pass is totally taking it back to Labor Days and Float. Citronella is far from MTV material and the same goes for the bonus track. It takes a lot to go from indie rap back packer to 30 second commercials on MTV. And he did it without rapping about cash and jewels.

Plus, Modest Mouse is in my top five. The Moon and Anarctica is their best though.

I remember noting that Dorian was one of my all time favorite songs purely because of how it's written when I met than amazing man. And if he dos get onto MTV, the fact that they don't give a shit about Shadows will make me so fucking crazy.

I don't know why artists insist on putting out CDs that AREN'T them. Case and point: Gwen Stefani. See how no one gives a shit about No Doubt anyone? Ugh. Thankfully, Aesop was able to achieve this status without the cliches, and I commend him for it, but, like I said, it's just the stigma, and I hope he doesn't put out another Bazooka Tooth. Blah.

The Moon and Antartica is amazing, but when they released Float On, no one had the slightest clue that CD existed, let alone The Lonesome Crowded West.

I think this is the most we've talked in a long time, Christopher.

Dude. Float On is one of the best songs I've heard by Modest Mouse. Honestly. That cd is amazing. Their new cd is great too. But the people that listen to those two cds, more so the new one, are obviously not directed towards the same fan base. But that isn't an excuse for You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having and Seven's Travels. Atmosphere's fanbase is the same general basis that its been for fifteen years. Jedi Mind Tricks is doing the same thing. Indie kids could appreciate Psycho Social and Violent By Design, but when Visons of Ghandi dropped they changed to a ridiculous extent. Not even a bad thing, just, weird. Thuggy, thuggy ( ... )

I don't like Float On. I skip it every time it comes on. That CD is good yes -Bukowski, Black Cadillacs, etc - but I don't like that song. I love old Modest Mouse, though they really haven't changed that much.

Also, You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having is a bad CD. And I've only seen Atmosphere with a live band - reminded me of the Roots, kind of, and I liked that. However, I'd like to actually see him with ANT - do they ever tour together?

Wait, who am I supposed to go see? Mac Lethal?

I think I still have the CD Mix list that you gave me, but I can never find half of those songs. Get a real computer, and send them to me.

He's touring with the liveband, and Ant's spinning records at the same time. ...Ant is a fucking bad ass looking dude too. He chain smoked the entire time of their set. And the list of tracks they did started off crap but once they got into it it was fucking great. They did Sunshine, Abusing of the Rib, LoveLife, Godlovesugly, Shrapnel, Always Coming Back Home To You, and an a capella thing at the end. It was good. Mr Dibbs just fucked things up. And was fucking awesome. I miss that.

But yeah, you need to see Mac Lethal live. He's so energetic, it reminded me a lot of Sage. He did a whole lot of spoken word type stuff between songs and a lot of freestyle stuff to well known beats. I wasn't ever really into him at all up until last night. Check out the track Ashes To Ashley.
