A minor panic yesterday, as the huge floater that had appeared in my left eye on Friday, accompanied by a little flashing light, had failed to disappear on its own account, and I was forced to admit that I had to get it checked out properly. I made the basic mistake of checking it all out on the interwebs first, which meant that I had to sit wibbling in terror for an hour or so after finding out what the treatment for a detached retina involved.

the other mistake I made was to go to my local A&E, rather than to the specialist one at Moorgate Eye hospital. After waiting for 3 hours as a decidedly non-urgent case (thaknk gods for the kindle, even reading one-eyed), I finally saw the eye doctor, who checked me out with the little eye-light thing (all I really wanted anyway), took my blood-pressure, said he coulnd't see anything (yay!), admitted that their big slit-scan viewer was broken and advised me to see my own optician as soon as I could, to get the state of my retina checked with the reference pictures she has. And to go to the straight to Moorgate today if the flashy light recurred. Fortunately, it all seems better today, with no flashly lights and the floater a bit smaller, so I will risk going to lunch with friends, and see the optician tomorrow. Scary though...

Bought myself some jellybabies on the way home, so the day wasn't a complete loss.

eyes, hospital, scary
