A very pleasant, if quiet birthday, mostly spent indoors, as it rained solidly all day. My boss rang to say that although there isn't any work going at the moment, when there is some not only do they want me back, but there will be a possible raise, which was encouraging. There were plenty of greetings from my lovely flist and cards, and the dress I had ordered as a present for myself arrived*. I watched some movies (Wicker Man and the Tall Guy), read my lovely new recipe book (
Arabesque by Claudia Roden, a present from the brother. When the g-d got home from work, we had a bottle of wine and gravadlax salmon with potatoes and salad, followed by coffee ice cream and cinnamon cakes from the Lebanese bakery, which turns out to be a near-perfect combination of tastes. She even stuck a candle in my cake and sang "happy Birthday" for me. Aww. It was lovely.
Incidentally, the g-d was rather startled by the return of the mouse the other week (it sauntered casually across the kitchen counter as she was making her breakfast porridge). I have had a trap baited with Nutella set out ever since, but there was no further sign of the creature. Until this morning, when I saw that the bunch of fresh parsley I had left on the kitchen counter in a glass of water had been extensively nibbled. What kind of rodent ignores Nutella for parsley? Can it be on a diet?
