It’s really cold (by my standards, anyway), and I’m sitting here in two sweaters and a shawl, beginning to wonder if I should put on my fingerless gloves, have another glass of Winter Pimms* or just go to bed, or maybe all three. Outside, the lights on the trees in the park are shining prettily through the snow, and on the radio, people are being warned not to may unnecessary journeys. Doubtless if the snow keeps up, the country will be paralysed again. I spent today in an oddly empty Ikea again (maybe this morning’s stinging hail had kept them away), stocking up on food for my big Christmas meal when the g-d and boyfriend arrive on Saturday, and on woolly throws for presents. I’m wearing one of them now as a shawl. Fortunately I’ve done most of my shopping, so

It’s been a busy and rather pleasant week, starting with a lovely evening at idahoswede’s, then taking in another visit to the V&A, to see their new Mediaeval and Renaissance gallery, followed by a lot of shopping, a little bit of tidying up, and the construction of another batch of puddings and a couple more monkeys. The new gallery is lovely, built cleverly into what looks like the gap between two of the older buildings. I recognised a lot of pieces from earlier visits, as well as a lot of stuff that must have been languishing in their storerooms, but everything is beautifully lit, and much easier to see than before.

*A brandy-based version of their gin-based summer drink, mixed with hot apple juice. Very tasty, but not a patch on idahoswede’s delicious glogg (can’t locate the umlaut), which is clearly designed for a much colder climate than this usually is.

The bit where the new gallery is connected to the old building - I think there was originally going to be a very modern angular glass building here, but no-one liked it and they ran out of money anyway.

This is the sculpture I mentioned to pondhopper last Friday, much better positioned an lit than before.

Another lovely madonna.

A rather cute bat-thing on a carved fireplace.
