Thoughtful, but not too thoughtful to shop.

After accidentally ruining several of my tops by washing them with a purple shirt and then idiotically trying to remove the stains by soaking them in dilute bleach and forgetting about them, I felt compelled to replace them with something more suitable for work, so yesterday I headed up to Oxford Street. The best part of the day was travelling to Oxford Street by bus. I managed easily to climb up the stairs and sat on the top deck, for the first time in three years. On a breezy, sunny day, with a job and no pain, and the wind (metaphorically) in my hair, I felt like the king of the world. Of course, when we got to Warren Street, the bus terminated and we had to change. I was reminded of the song For Now from Avenue Q - "For now we're healthy, for now we're employed, for now we're happy if not overjoyed. And we'll accept the thing we cannot avoid". Slightly bleak, I suppose, but in a cheery way, and pretty much summing up my philosophy at the moment.

Rather remarkably, I managed to buy five perfectly acceptable tops for less than £45 in H&M, all in shades of purple, pink and red that looked wonderful all together but rather less striking singly. On a roll, I also went to Selfridges and replaced my tatty Muji bag with a nice new Muji bag, and bought some cinnamon jellybeans. Selfridges' Christmas decoration department is already open. I suppose this explains why all their nicer decorations have sold out whenever I visit in December. Wandering around among the glittery tat had a pleasantly cooling effect on a muggy day, and I managed to avoid buying any of the fluffy owls and wondered where I will be by Christmas.
