Once more, I made the mistake of sticking to my original plan (going to John Lewis on Oxford Street) when all the omens were against me, so I've just returned from a nightmare bus journey there and back, punctuated by huge diversions due to roadworks, mysterious shop layouts, a higher than usual number of mad people on the streets (including the least convincing transvestite I've seen for some time) and hordes of screaming kids. I bought embroidery stuff, red eyes for the Evil Monkey and a new pillow, which I was able to sleep on during the long, long, busride home.
But this news item was just mentioned on the radio, and I simply had to find pictures and post them to cheer myself up. According to the radio, "the other penguins teased him because he was bald". Another blow against evolution.
