I’ve spent the last few days in a sort of hibernation. Thursday night was pretty sociable, but only because the g-d and I had arranged for a couple of her friends (who also work with me) to stay at my place before the monthly work meeting on Friday, so we had a full house, and a rather jolly meal (cabbage and bacon with new potatoes and Cumberland sauce - very tasty). On Friday, I went to the meeting with them, having no excuse not to, then sloped off home through the horrible rain to collapse onto the sofa. Friday night, I should have gone to the theatre, but cried off, on Sunday I also cancelled a planned trip to the Royal Academy and today I didn't go to a guided tour of Goldsmith's hall. By the weekend, it had become clear that my torpor and general achiness were due to some sort of viral infection, rather than to some sort of emotional rebound after being jilted by the hospital.
I have what feels like a slight cold (sniffy, itchy eyes, sore throat), but the glands in my neck are swollen, all my joints ache, and I feel completely wrung out and exhausted. I'm also having real difficulty concentrating on reading or writing - my brain feels fuzzy and weird. The immune system is a funny thing, and it is quite possible that I wouldn’t have developed anything bad after the operation, but on the whole I’m relieved that it was cancelled now.
