Just back from the Whittington Hospital, almost carrying the g-d's boyfriend to an out-of-hours GP appointment, since he still has a high, fluctuating fever and is all wobbly, plus he can't keep any food down, even the lovely chicken soup I made him. There were no minicabs to be had, so we dragged him to the bus stop, and then managed to flag down a black cab (pretty rare in these parts). He's a big lad, so the g-d and I had to support him from either side, like a couple of ants carrying a large beetle. At first he was a bit reluctant to let us support him, but the g-d told him to "think of himself as a huge, hairy girl", which made me laugh too much and almost drop him.

He turns out to have glandular fever, which can take anything from 7-10 days to three months to clear up, and being viral, has no particular treatment. We just have to keep him hydrated and full of paracetamol and Lucozade until he recovers on his own. His parents are coming up from Wales to take him home tomorrow.
